February also marks Black History Month! Reed's Black Student Union, with some financial support from Reed PTSA, will have teachings and activities to engage all students this month, including trivia activities, a guest speaker and more to highlight Black Excellence. More details will be sent via Schoology and morning announcements. SCHOOL UNIFORMS: Please review our School Dress Code policy with your students. Students must follow the dress code every day, which includes no hats or hoodies. Sweatshirts with hoods are fine as long as the hoods are not on their heads (exceptions will be made when it is very cold).
YEARBOOK: Students/ staff: Yearbook wants to know how you "self-care"! Please fill out this Google Form to share your strategies and you might be featured in this year's yearbook! 8TH GRADE ACTIVITIES
CAMPUS EVENTS
In conjunction with Friends of Reed and PTSA, there are a variety of on campus activities planned for all eligible 8th graders. Eligibility is based on your 8th grader meeting the Culmination Requirements provided by Walter Reed Middle School. These LAUSD sponsored or co-sponsored activities include:
- 8th Grade Dance on May 6
- Fun Day on June 8 in the afternoon
- Culmination ceremony on June 9
DONATION REQUEST: We are asking for a voluntary donation of $30 per student to help fund the events listed above. The deadline to donate is March 7, 2022. We understand that some families can donate a smaller amount while others can give more. Our goal is 100% participation. No student will be denied the ability to participate in these activities due to inability to donate; however, some events may be scaled down or cancelled if there is insufficient funding. See the letter at the end of this section for the payment voucher to submit a donation.

Friends of Reed and PTSA are co-sponsoring Jr. Grad Night at Magic Mountain.
This activity is not an LAUSD sponsored event, and students can elect to attend. Students must meet Culmination Requirements AND purchase a ticket to be eligible to attend. See the letter below for details and the payment voucher to purchase tickets by the March 7th deadline.

COVID PROTOCOLS, UPDATES & NEWS
UPGRADED MASK REQUIREMENT
Masking will be required at all times, indoors and outdoors. Students will be required to wear a non-cloth mask with a nose wire at all times, including while participating in athletic activities. Masks will be available to students at all gates and in classrooms if they need them.
TESTING UPDATES
Ongoing Weekly IN-SCHOOL Testing Through February: Testing will continue for students and employees, regardless of vaccination status.
Testing at Reed: On Fridays, Reed MS will be COVID testing. Anyone who has had a positive COVID-19 test in the previous 90 days is exempt from the weekly, in-school PCR testing. If your child will be absent on Friday, please make sure to take them to a stationary testing site listed below.
LAUSD is NOT accepting at-home rapid tests as proof of a positive COVID case. If your child tested positive for COVID on a rapid test, please also take them to East Valley Skills Center to get a PCR test. Rapid Antigen tests are only accepted for positive asymptomatic students and employees who want to shorten their Isolation period from 10 days to 5 days (see locations listed below).

TESTING TO RELEASE FROM ISOLATION/AT-HOME QUARANTINE
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 and are asymptomatic and wish to take a rapid antigen test on or after Day 5 of your isolation period to return early to work or school, please visit a designated site Monday to Friday, 7:15 AM to 4:30 PM, walk-in only (no appointments). There are also select Saturday dates available. Local District Northeast sites are:

ISOLATION & QUARANTINE:
TK-12 Close Contacts Will Be Treated as Close Contacts & Remain On Campus as long as they remain asymptomatic, participate in the weekly testing, and wear a well-fitted mask:
Families will not receive individual close contact notifications but can review daily case count updates for their school online at achieve.lausd.net/covidreportcard.
Students can participate in sports and before- and after-school programs
If a student develops symptoms or tests positive, they must isolate immediately and follow home isolation protocols. Please note: LAUSD is accepting only PCR testing to identify a positive COVID case.
At-Home Close Contacts: Students exposed to COVID-19 outside of school must participate in at-home quarantine unless they are fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 in the last 90 days, in which case they will remain on campus. Please visit achieve.lausd.net/spring2022 for the latest guidance.

VACCINATIONS ARE KEY
Vaccinations remain a key element in reducing the impact of COVID-19 on individuals and communities, and will be required for students 12 and older at the start of the Fall 2022 semester. Anyone 5 years or older is eligible for the two-dose Pfizer vaccine. Booster shots are available for anyone 12 and older, at least five months after their second dose.
