Science Supplies NEEDED!!
First off, thank you SO MUCH to all of you thus far who been signing up to send in supplies!
An example of what we are looking for is below:
Pioneer Day
Pioneer Day is just around the corner on Friday, November 18th. This is a big event with lots of fun activities. Our 1st Graders will be participating in a variety of crafts including necklace & toy making, fabric dyeing, quill writing, butter churning, and soap making. Each craft will be set up in a classroom and the children will rotate as groups through each activity throughout the day.
All volunteers must have background check clearance through PISD. If you haven’t already done so, please complete the application located at: http://www.pisd.edu/about.us/partners.volunteers/volunteer.application.shtml
If you are interested in volunteering or donating supplies, a sign up genius will be sent via email by your child's teacher this week.
Canned Food Drive
Student Council and PTA are helping to collect canned food for PISD’s annual food drive. The drive is this week & next week. Collection boxes will be at each of the entrances to the school. Food items include canned/boxed/plastic bottled food. A flyer with more information will be coming home this week as well as through the PTA eBlast and Facebook.
What We're Learning
Language Arts & Social Studies
In language arts, are reviewing all the spelling patterns we've learned so far. By the end of the week, we hope students are successfully spelling words with short vowels, r blends & th/sh digraphs. In writer's workshop, we have been working on staying on topic while writing as well as how to write good beginnings, middles, and ends.
In social studies, students have continued learning about their neighborhood and local geography (city, state, country, continent). Next week we will focus on comparing and contrasting maps and globes.
Math
Science
Over the next two weeks, students will be learning about the concepts of force and motion through engaging and hands on lessons. They will be identifying how things move and what factors can change the speed of an object. Students will also have the opportunity to create a ramp and investigate what happens when variables are changed.
