DEPARTMENT NEWS

World Language
Señora Kasynik's Spanish 2/3 classes recently began their annual Locura de Marzo song competition. The songs are incorporated into daily lessons, usually in an oral format. Students fill out a bracket and vote for their favorites. This international contest keeps Steele connected with artists from many countries. Señora Kasynik's students recently competed in a video competition for one artist's song and had a ball including Mr. Tellier in two of our videos!
Additionally, Spanish 3 has been improving their reading and writing skills by reading a crime novel full of mystery and suspense. Spanish 2 will be improving their listening comprehension by watching a telenovela starting this spring.
Señora Volzer's Spanish 1 classes have been studying about families and describing them and what they do. They are examining different cultural events that pertain to the family such as the quinceañera, the 15th birthday, of young women in Latin America.
Spanish 2 has just finished simulating an open-air market and learning how to bargain like it is done in many Spanish speaking countries. Currently, Spanish 2 students are learning about the cultural issue of poverty throughout the Spanish-speaking countries through songs, articles, and videos while learning the past preterite tense.
Students in Madame Gorodea's French classes have been celebrating Mardi Gras! The students have incorporated learning grammar and vocabulary while immersing themselves in the French culture of Mardi Gras. The students have also made delicious French food to share in class to bring authenticity to the French classroom instruction.
