Every Student Counts, Every Moment Matters!
A Message from Principal Webb
Fall is here! Please make sure students are coming prepared dressed for the weather. Sometimes the mornings are a little chillier than a few weeks ago, light jackets might be needed.
You know the saying... "it takes a village to raise a child"? This is why Longfellow loves volunteers, the community is highly involved! Volunteers help make many projects successful that wouldn't normally happen at Longfellow. If you are interested in volunteering to help students, organize activities, or help with office duties, then contact the PTA, office or teachers for more information. Volunteering for the district requires an online application which can be found here: https://www.iowacityschools.org/domain/57.
Sincerely,
Kelli Webb
Attention- PLAYGROUND USERS
Our BASP (KEY) has up to 100 students also using the playground after school and actually have first priority when using the equipment. Parents and guardians pay for this program supervision and we ask that you respect this by supervising your child if you choose to play on the equipment after school hours.
The expectation is that ALL students are supervised by parents/guardians if they are using the equipment after school.
Safety is our top priority so we ask that the playground equipment be used appropriately and that all students follow the school rules when using the equipment.
If a student is observed using the equipment without supervision or unsafely, they will be asked to leave immediately.
We will be sharing the playground handbook next week in the newsletter.
Thank you for all of your support.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports- PBIS
Congratulations to our students for being Safe, Supportive and Responsible! On Friday, we celebrated with an all-school assembly highlighting a few students from every grade that were that nominated by their teachers for being Safe, Supportive or Responsible! Keep up the good work Longhorns!
Pick-up and Drop off UPDATE!
** I met with the City of Iowa City on Friday regarding changes to our carline, and bus procedures. In the next few weeks we will likely be making a few changes in hopes to improve the flow of traffic-stay tuned!!!
Safety reminders:
*Please do NOT get out of the car in car line to open the door for your student.
*Children exiting the cars in carline should exit on their own and on the passenger side of the car.
*No parking on the south side of the building in the bus lane.
*All cars should remain in carline and follow the loop around to exit.
*We highly encourage all vehicles to come from the east on Seymour Ave to help with the flow of traffic.
Again, safety is our first priority. We appreciate everyone following the outlined procedures.
