The Dig on Digital Graphics
Exploring Interests and Igniting a Passion for Learning
Genius Hour - Our Latest Endeavor
In Digital Graphics, we have been working on a project called Genius Hour. Genius Hour is a national movement inspired by a practice in which Google allows their employees time to explore interests or passions. I have adapted a version of this practice in our classroom. Students were allowed to choose an interest or passion that they wanted to explore or learn. Students will eventually present their topics and showcase what they have learned in interesting, “out of the box” ways. I have encouraged them to go the extra mile and interview people, document experiences, collaborate with others, and gain first-hand experiences. Watch the video below for a brief overview and check out the gallery below the video to see actual topics your children are exploring!
What is Genius Hour? - Introduction to Genius Hour in the Classroom

Autism
How are families affected by Autism? What are the different types? How are kids diagnosed?
Sign Language
One student is learning not only the ASL alphabet, but how to sign nursery rhymes!
The Science Behind a 100 mph Pitch
What muscles do you engage? What kind of training helps the most?
How to Grow Plants from Store Bought Fruits and Vegetables
What kinds of fruits or vegetables can you use? How do you do it?
Does your Birth Month Affect your Personality?
Are the kindest people really born in May?
Have you seen your child's work?
From the beginning of the year, students have been cataloging their work on an ePortfolio. The students made the website in Google Sites and upload their finished work every month. Ask your student to share their projects with you! I am so proud of their work and I know you will be too! Students simply need to log into Google to access their ePortfolio.
Here's a Snapshot of What's Going on in Class:
Hybrid Animals
We used Photoshop to make odd animal combinations! Check out this student's "Blue fly-shark"!
Innovations
Students worked in groups to develop the next big thing! With the #3 pencil, you never have to worry about losing your writing utensil again!
Innovation Poster Design
Students designed posters for their innovations for advertising. They had to use the elements and principles of Graphic Design.
We need you!
How can you help?
