Wearing Halloween Costumes At Lakeridge
Costumes will be in good taste for an academic setting and not interfere with the educational process. All classes will take place normally on these days and costumes must allow students to take part in ALL classes, including P.E. Students whose costumes do not follow these guidelines will be sent home to change and will be expected to return in normal school dress.
- Face-masks will not be allowed. Unusual or bizarre make-up does not constitute a costume and if asked to remove it, students will be expected to do so promptly.
- Dressing as some current rock stars or celebrities could be inappropriate in a school setting. Any such costumes will be judged very carefully as to their suitability at school. Dressing in gang attire is not allowed. Any reference to alcohol, drugs, sex, or violence is considered inappropriate.
- Colored hair spray and glitter have caused problems with eyes. Use of such materials must be done at home before coming to school. Do not bring these products to school.
- Remember that toy weapons of any sort (replicas of knives, guns, or any other type of weapon) may not be brought on campus even as a part of a costume. Violation of this guideline will be regarded as a violation of the District’s weapons policy and will result in disciplinary action per district policy.

Teams then square off in a series of "Battles" to show off how much they have learned by answering questions about the books. PSI STEM Opportunity
The Partnership for Scientific Inquiry (PSI) program held at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is a great way to dive deeper into STEM and research.
Oregon sophomore, junior, and senior high school students may apply. An ideal student is interested in scientific research or pursuing the field of biomedical research. The PSI program introduces high school students to the scientific process and provides access to research scientists from OHSU and other Portland research institutes in a 16-week course. This is a semester-long program with a potential opportunity to be paired with a mentor for a summer research experience. There is no cost to students. We meet virtually on Wednesday nights for two hours from February to May. Students must apply and arrange for one teacher or counselor recommendation sent to us by December 16, 2022. For program details and application forms visit: www.psiprogramohsu.com. We will be accepting applications for our 23rd PSI program beginning November 1, 2022.

Lock Down Drill Postponed Until November 4th
Lakeridge High School will be conducting a lockdown Drill on Friday, November 4th. State law requires we conduct 2 Lockdown drills each year. Our goal in planning for this important safety drill is to minimize the disruption to classroom learning and avoid creating undue concern, while simultaneously providing practice for staff, students, visitors, and volunteers. In the event of an emergency the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our most important priority.
A Lockdown is initiated when there is a threat inside the building. A lockdown secures students, staff, and volunteers within classrooms while leaving entrances open for emergency personnel and law enforcement to clear the building.
We will be conducting this drill with the assistance of the LOPD, who have become invaluable partners with the school district in all of our emergency training. Afterwards we will spend time assessing how well we executed procedures and where we can improve our practices. If you are interested in learning more about our lockdown procedures, visit the Safety and Security department page located the LOSD https://www.losdschools.org/domain/1748
This drill has been known to be highly stressful for some kids. Lakeridge High School is offering a less intense Lockdown drill format for those that truly need it. Please fill out the form linked below If you or your child believes they would benefit from the alternative Lockdown drill.
The safety of our children is our most important priority and we care deeply that each child feels safe at school.
