Update on Professional Learning Opportunities for #gwaealibs

The 2018-2019 school year will be an exciting one for Grant Wood AEA Teacher Librarians, full of opportunities to connect and grow. Check out the details below!
There will be four free half-day workshops for Teacher Librarians this year. These workshops are part of a yearlong Teacher Librarian Series that will explore the crosswalk between various guiding frameworks (Future Ready Librarian, ISTE, AASL) and practice.

October 2: Librarians as Leaders

Workshop Description:

Librarians serve a vital role as thought partners in any school community. They work to support district initiatives, build instructional partnerships and align curriculum to enhance student learning experiences. Their leadership beyond the library empowers all learners. This workshop will explore ideas for advocacy and action for leading learning in the school community.

December 11: Empowering Students as Creators

Workshop Description:

Libraries have long been a place for exploration and creativity, and librarians serve a vital role in empowering students as creators. Creativity and creation can take many forms, both physical and virtual, tangible and intangible. This workshop will explore a variety of ideas for supporting students as makers.

March 5: Curating Collections

Workshop Description:

Libraries are a places for every learner to find the resources they need. Access to resources and ideas, promotion of literacy, and exploration of ideas have been important considerations for librarians as they curate and manage diverse collections to serve their diverse learners. This workshop will explore resources, tools and important considerations for collection curation and development.

May 7: Supporting and Celebrating Digital Citizens

Workshop Description:

Technology allows for learners to connect anytime, anywhere. Teacher Librarians and students alike can benefit from this ability to connect. As with any great power, there comes great responsibility. This workshop will explore resources, tools and important considerations for leveraging social media to empower learners and creating thoughtful and considerate digital citizens.

Sharing Our Stories

We are very excited to announce that we have launched a new blog dedicated to sharing the stories of Grant Wood AEA librarians. We sincerely hope this blog will be a place for us all to belong, find our community and to know that there are others who will inspire us by sharing their idea and their library stories.


The blog will have regular features on area Teacher Librarians and will highlight their work with guest blogs. In addition, the blog will also be a place to explore topics pertinent to our professional and share ideas with regular interactive opportunities as well.

Better Together: Collaborative Conversations

These 30 minute chats are designed to be an exchange of ideas amongst Iowa Teacher Librarians. Each month an AEA Teacher Librarian will facilitate the conversation via 3-4 crowdsourced discussion questions (ideas can be submitted via the registration form).

Lynn Kleinmeyer

Lynn Kleinmeyer is a Digital Learning Consultant with Grant Wood AEA. Prior to joining the Digital Learning Team, Lynn taught 7th grade Reading before becoming a Teacher Librarian. Lynn is dedicated to supporting Teacher Librarians and the integration of technology and information literacy skills in every classroom.

Dianna Geers

Dianna Geers is the Teacher Librarian with Grant Wood AEA. Prior to joining Grant Wood AEA's Media Center, she was a middle school teacher and then a Teacher Librarian. Dianna is dedicated to supporting Teacher Librarians, educators and students by collaborating to provide resources and learning supports.

About the Digital Learning Team

The Grant Wood Digital Learning Team works with AEA 10 schools to help them integrate technology in the classroom. We work with teachers and administrators on-site, and at Grant Wood facilities. Each school district is assigned a Technology Consultant from the Digital Learning Team to help facilitate the ways in which we can help schools improve teaching and learning with technology.
