Sand Ridge "Shark Bites" Update
May 1, 2022 - Issue #30
Good Afternoon Shark Families,
WOW! This spring is just speeding by and we are already in May! It is the busiest time of year, with lots of wonderful culminating activities and celebrations and end of year assessments that show us how much our Sharks have grown over this year.
Over the course of the remainder of the year, students in all grades will be participating in various assessments. Dates for these assessments should be shared by classroom teachers and include district and state mandated assessments in Mclass assessments in grades K-3, iReady Math assessments in grades K-2, Check-ins in grades 4-5, and End-of-Grade tests in Grades 3-5. Please do your best to have your student in school each day, but especially on days when you know they are involved with assessments, as make-ups are hard on students since they will not generally not be done in their normal classroom setting.
Our Spring Apex Event starts this week. Please see the graphic below and there is also a link to an informative video. Last year, during COVID, we raised over $12,000 for our school. This year our goal is higher. Please help us raise funds that we can pledge to the PTO to help with the purchase of a second playground!! The date of the Fun Run event is May 12th and information regarding fundraising and the Fun Run will be coming home with students this week.
Mr. Henderson is advertising for test proctors for EOG testing. Help is greatly needed! Please see the flyer that comes home and sign up for a day or days if you are able. This is an easy way to help support the school.
Interim Progress Reports go home on May 5th, so please be on the lookout for them.
Lastly, this week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. A Calendar of ways we can celebrate our awesome Shark Staff is posted below. I hope that you can participate and take this opportunity to show our staff how special they are.
Have a fantastic week!
Denise Gartner, Principal
Principal's Week was Wonderful!
What a wonderful week for me a secret Principal's Week was planned. Students wore my favorite color, wore bright colors, wore hats and flowers, created beautiful artwork, and gave me a variety of flowers. I feel loved and appreciated everyday, but thank you all for this special week!
Middle School Visit Brings Band and Orchestra
On Thursday afternoon, representatives from Swansboro Middle School came to meet with fifth grade students. Among the visitors were the band and orchestra directors and a few students from each group, who shared a little about their instruments. It was a joy to see a few former Sharks in the group!
Middle School Students Answer Questions
In addition to the visits from the music department, counselors and AVID teachers were on-hand, as were students who were there to answer our fifth graders' questions. This part of the program is always a hit with our students as they get to ask real Pirate students their pressing questions.
It is Spring Survey Time and your opinions matter to us!! Please click the button below and take just a few minutes to provide feedback. Thank you!
