Oakdale Family Newsletter

April 2022

From The Principal

Happy Spring Oakdale Families!

I want to start by wishing Ramadan Mubarak to all those that are celebrating. Students who are fasting are welcome to join me in my office during their lunch time.

There is a ton of information to share out this month, so please read carefully through this newsletter!

Principal For The Day

Recently I asked every student at Oakdale School to think about another student they would select to be “Principal for the Day”. The “Principal for a Day” honor is one that students get quite excited for and I was delighted to offer this opportunity to someone who has proven through their actions that they have made a positive impact on the Oakdale community. The rules were simple:

1. You cannot nominate yourself, this is a chance to acknowledge someone else in our community.

2. This person should demonstrate the Oakdale Standards of Behavior. This should be a person you notice is hardworking, trustworthy and kind.

3. You can nominate someone from any grade or class.

4. Back up your choice with examples, evidence and reasons to support your choice.

Students were also asked to keep their nomination to themselves, so as not to influence the choices others might make.

After reading all 244 nomination sheets, it is my pleasure to announce 4th grade student Rosie Wilcox as our winner. When announced yesterday, you could hear the applause across the building as students cheered for her!

Reading through these was the best part of my year, so far. Our students do incredible things everyday, and the children genuinely notice the kindness, effort, hard work and focus of their peers. If your student was nominated, those nominations will be coming home with them this week with a letter from me congratulating them for the positive impact they have had on their community.

Mrs. Healy would like me to remind you to send in the most recent copy of your child's physical letter.

This concert is happening tonight! 7:00 at DHS. Hope to see you there!

Some Reminders from the PTO:

Spring is here and the PTO is planning lots of fun activities for our school community! Here’s a sneak peek at a few upcoming events…

Name the Street Fundraiser — Win naming rights to Oakdale’s front circle drive! The street sign will be displayed for the 2022-2023 school year and then taken down for a keepsake. Forms will be sent home with students and due no later than April 30.

Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6 — Stay tuned for more information on celebrating our wonderful teachers!

Cultural Night, April 29th— Share your culture with our school community! Sign up details coming soon for display tables and demonstrations.

Family Fun Night, June 9 (rain date June 16) — Our traditional end of school event on the Oakdale field returns for 2022.

A quick reminder that submitting Box Tops for Education is easier than ever. Just download the Box Tops for Education app, and quickly scan your grocery store receipts to give back to Oakdale Elementary. You can use receipts from grocery pick ups too. Traditional clipped out box tops still count and can be dropped off at the office.

Keep an eye on our Oakdale PTO Facebook page for more details or email oakpto1@gmail.com with any questions.

Important Highlights from March

Students enjoyed many fun activities and events in the month of March thanks to the hard work and dedication of teachers and families!

Bright Star Touring Company came and presented a Women's History performance for all grades thanks to the generosity of the PTO.

Bren Bataclan completed an Artist Residence with our 5th Graders creating amazing paintings and highlighting the joys of giving! Thank you to Kristin Prata for her extensive work in putting this event together for the 5th grade students, and to all the community volunteers who supported the two day workshop!

The 3x3 Basketball Tournament was a huge success and the students had a blast! Big thanks to Leslie Pouliot and all the family members who coached, cheered and sold snacks!

Enrichments are ending!

Enrichments end the week before April break (unless otherwise noted by your Enrichment teacher). It has been wonderful to bring this programming back to Oakdale and a successful first run!

Moving into April, MCAS have begun, field trips are planned and many fun events are being scheduled. Make sure to check the important dates section of the newsletter for all the things that are coming up.

As always, please call or reach out anytime,

Kim
