ANIMALS
Polar bear
- The polar bear is a big mammal, he is also called white bear or northern bear because he lives in Arctic. he is very stong and fast, can run an hour for a short distance. Polar bear has 42 teeth. there is only the white bear in Arctic, no more species.
Emperor penguin
- The emperor penguin is a penguin that lives in Antarctica. It is the tallest and heaviest penguin. They are the only birds that can lay their eggs on ice. they are 6 species of penguin in Antarctica.
leopard seal
- The leopard seal is the second largest species of seal in the Antarctic. It can lives twenty-six years, possibly more. Orcas and large sharks are the only natural predators of leopard seal. It is the only animal who represent the species of Hydrurga.
Squid
Squid are cephalopods of the order Teuthida . they are the sister group of the octopods. Squid are carnivores and, in turn, they are hunted. the largest squid, Giant squid and Colossal Squid, are eaten by sperm whales and Orcas. They are about 300 species of squid but in Antarctica they are only 70 species of squid.
Krill
The Antarctic krill is a species of krill that lives in Antarctic waters of the Southern Ocean. They are shrimp-like and belong to the invertebrates. They are 85 species of krill in Antarctica.
Killer whale
Killer Whales, or Orcas are cetaceans. They are the largest dolphins in the world, whales because of their size. Orcas have mostly black skin with white patches. They are found in all world's oceans, from the cold of the Arctic to the tropical seas. They are realy easy to identify of their distinctive white and black colouring.

Ice cores
AN ice core is a long piece of ice taken from a glacier. Usually, ice cores are taken from Antarctica, Greenland, or very high mountains. Scientists study ice cores to find out how the climate was in the past(800 thoushand years ago). The ice keeps informations like gases, particles, ash from volcanoes. The type of water that forms the ice can be used to calculate the temperature of the Earth. The longes ice core extend to 3km in depth. The oldest continuous ice core records to date extend 123,000 years in Greenland and 800,000 years in Antarctica.
Climate
The climate of Antarctica is the coldest on the Earth. We can prevent the climate by measuring the size of the floe. If it's increasing, the climate is going to cool and if it's decreasing, the climate is going to warm. If it's increasing there will be a global modication of the climate on the all of the Earth, but if it's decreasing a major part of the ice is going to melt. If the polar ice melt, the sea levels rise and a big part of the lands disapear. But for the animals like penguins, if the ice melt they are going to lose a lot of their territory. They won't can lay any eggs, the all of the species can be extinct like that. But if the ice doesn't melt, if the floe is increasing then on the contrary the animals are going to win more territory and the animals will live in peace.
Antarctica
If Antarctica disappear the all of the species of animals who are living here are going to die except maybe for the species of fish like squid or killer whales.
