Happy Holiday Season and School Board Happenings

Good evening Crawford families,

As you may know the School Board will be working on many issues in the coming weeks. Among these are the re-evaluation of the mask requirement in schools and the School Efficiency Task Force report to the School Board. You may have seen articles in the Newsminer about these issues.

A topic which is significant for us here on Eielson will be addressed at the December 6 School Board Work Session. From FNSBSD Public Relations: "On Monday, December 6, the school efficiency task force recommendations report will be presented to the Board of Education in a work session. The agenda and the task force recommendations are now available. The work session is open to the public and can be attended in-person or by watching online through zoom (link in agenda) or the district’s Facebook page. Work sessions are informational meetings, there is no public testimony and the Board will not vote on any agenda items." I recommend that you read the report and consider the recommendations of the Task Force. Again, this will not be voted on Monday, however the School Board will be considering the recommendation of the task force during Monday's work session.

With regard to masks, during the School Board meeting of December 7 the question of whether masks will continue to be mandatory next semester is on the agenda. Regardless of the outcome, we will continue to work with the Air Force to be certain that we are in compliance with installation requirements. If you would like to listen to the meeting, here is the agenda link to the December 7, 2021 School Board Regular Meeting.

With all of these things in the offing, as we wind up the semester and turn toward the upcoming year, we hope that you enjoy the holiday season and all that it has to offer. Crawford is hosting the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop Experience this week so that students are able to buy gifts for family members, and we are celebrating musically with our Winter Band and Orchestra Concert on December 14. The last three days of the semester are all early outs, with students dismissed at 12:40, as well as Spirit Days where all will dress to show their holiday spirit (see below for themes). This should give us all plenty of time to enjoy the holidays and get in the spirit of the season.

Have a wonderful Sunday evening and a great week!

Encores are Evolving Into WIN Time

Encores will change for the third quarter, and we are excited to announce that we will be moving to WIN Time. WIN stands for What I Need and will incorporate Personalized Learning and Student Reflection and Ownership into student learning, allowing for expanded time to work with grade level teachers in 4/5 and fifth and sixth grades. ELL, ELP, Resource and Band and Orchestra will continue. More information will be coming soon, and students won't need to worry about signing up for Encores or not getting the Encore of choice. As a salute to the teachers and subjects of Encore time, see the gallery below for pics and explanations. Thank you to all the staff who made Encores memorable and exciting, and to the students for taking part enthusiastically.
