The book The Secret Life of Bees is about a girl named Lily who has a confusing memory of the day her mom died, She has to live with a abusive father and a protecting housekeeper and when she starts questioning things she finds out something that will horrify her for the rest of her life. Lily takes chances and risks during the book and finds the answers she's been searching for her whole life.
The book The Secret Life of Bees is about a girl named Lily who is struggling because her mother died and she is living with her abusive father. Lily is questioning what her mom was doing the day she left and trying to get answers the whole book.
Theme
The theme of the book The Secret Life of Bees is forgiveness. At the beginning of the book Lily has to struggle with forgiving herself because she killed her mom when she was little girl. At night Lily dreams of finding her mom and asking her mom for forgiveness and she believes that her mom would forgive her in a heart beat. Towards the middle of the book Lily finds out that the day her mom died she was actually planning to leave and she believed that her mom was going to leave with out her and leave her with her abusive father. She got very angry and did not forgive her dead mother. It took her a while to even question forgiving her mother and she pondered why forgiving people was so hard. Forgiveness is shown throughout the book.
Main Characters
Lily Owens, Lily is the narrator and main character of the book.
T. Ray Owens, T, Ray is Lily's father who is abusive and not a good father at all.Rosaleen Daise, Rosaleen is Lily and T. Ray's house slave. She shows Lily motherly love and treats Lily as a best friend.
August Boatwright, August aslo treats Lily like her own daughter.
