Week 38 - 6/5/2020
Week 38 - One Week Left! Let's Celebrate!
Traditionally, the final week of school at MPMS features field days, end of year awards ceremonies, and celebrations of the achievements of our students throughout the school year - both academic, athletic, and social. While we cannot have a traditional week of celebrations, the teachers of MPMS have created video celebrations and award ceremonies that will be emailed out to all students and parents in to each grade level at 10 am on the day that should have been their end of year celebration. These videos will also be included in next week's newsletter.
6th Grade: Wednesday, June 10th
7th Grade: Thursday, June 11th
8th Grade: Friday, June 12th
Stay tuned this week - there might be more end of year surprises announced by email and text message!
Looking ahead to next year:
All students returning to MPMS or moving up to MPHS need to complete their Student Data Verification - instructions are the next item in the newsletter. The portal for 2020-21 will be opening soon! That will greatly assist us as we prepare for next school year. You will get a notification when the portal is open for you to complete.
And finally, with one week remaining I'd like to give a HUGE shout out to our amazing PARENTS. Stepping up to support the learning of our students and being our partners in instruction has made a huge difference. Thank you for everything, we appreciate it very much.
PowerSchool Enrollment - Online Returning Student Data Verification will open in June.
Parents of returning students must access the PowerSchool Enrollment online forms through the PowerSchool Parent Portal at https://ps.mpark.net/public. The online forms contain demographic and emergency information you entered last year. During this process, you will verify the information is accurate or update any information that has changed. Parents will also electronically sign annual agreement forms for school district policies.
At least one parent is required to create a PowerSchool Parent Portal account. If you have multiple children in Manassas Park City Schools, you must verify information for each student, however only one parent account is necessary.
· If you have created a PowerSchool Parent Portal account in a previous school year, please use that account to log in. Please do not create a new account.
· If you have not created a PowerSchool parent account, directions can be found at http://www.mpark.net/parents/directions-for-parent-portal.
If you have questions about your account, please contact your child’s school for assistance.
In preparation for the June opening and to make the process as smooth as possible, please login to verify your existing PowerSchool Parent Portal account or create a new PowerSchool Parent Portal account if not already created prior to the end of the 2019-2020 school year.
Congratulations to Jacob Sookdeo - 5 C Challenge Winner!

Update from the Library!
Hello out there! I hope you all are finding good things to read, and fun games to play. I just celebrated my birthday yesterday pretty much as usual, except that my husband and I got takeout from my favorite restaurant instead of eating it there. We got to go camping last weekend, and it was nice to be someplace else for a few days. I've talked to Mrs. Jones a few times, and she and her family are doing fine too. Life is good!
Office Hours: I'll continue to hold office hours from 9 to 11 am for the next two weeks, but it won't be every day. If you email me (not that anyone does), I'll get back to you within a couple of days. I'll update the library schedule on this Canvas course with any changes.
Public Library News: The City of Manassas Park is withdrawing from the Prince William Public Library System (PWPLS) as of June 30, 2020. We will have a new City Library starting on July 1, 2020. From what I understand, Manassas Park residents who already have a PWPLS library card will still be able to check out books and use the online databases from PWPLS. Stay tuned for more information!
Temporary Free Resources: Some of the free eBook and audiobook resources that I've posted will be expiring soon. You can continue to use our own eBooks in the library catalog.
What do you want for next year? I'll have library money to spend starting in August, so please let me know what you want! I'm planning on getting a lot more digital resources for you. Fill out the Library Suggestion Box Form and let me know what you want to read!

MPCS Food Services Continue! Tuesdays ONLY
The MPCS School Nutrition Program is providing prepackaged grab-and-go meals at no charge to all children ages 18 and under on Tuesdays at the main entrance of Manassas Park High School between 4 and 6 pm. Please note this is a location change from in front of the Middle School to the High School.
In order to minimize the number of times parents must bring their children to the distribution site, a weekly set of prepackaged breakfasts and lunches will be provided on Tuesdays. All meals will be the same regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
Safe social distancing practices will be in effect. As the meal distributions will be set up as a grab-and-go, attendees should follow volunteer direction to ensure safe vehicle traffic and open vehicle trunks for expedited delivery.
