CAPTAIN'S LOG
AHOY, PIRATES!
Our holiday weekend turned into an unexpected five-day break due to the threat of Gordon. We are thankful that the storm chose a different path, but it came at a price to a child in Florida. Knowing that it could have been us gives much peace about the decision to close. Please know that the decision is never easy and is never done without careful thought and consideration for the implications of a day without school. Safety of our students and faculstaff is our primary concern. Without peace of mind, we cannot meet our mission. To that end, we plan to make up those critical instructional days using our planned weather days in October. Thus, we will have school October 9-10 as is specified on our calendar. We are planning to do a professional make-up day October 8.
I hope your first thoughts regarding our make-up days are ones of relief. This side of the school year is our most important as the bulk of instruction happens between now and April. Any day lost to absences is one that potentially stifles our students by causing gaps in learning that are difficult for each successive grade level to close. We have come too far to turn back! The Pirates are on the rise! Thank you for your continued commitment to excellence and our students. We are stronger as a result. With that, I submit the Log. #stayhungry #excellencemarksthespot #committedtoexcellence
