Change Can Be Messy At First...
Patriots, can you believe that we are one day away from being in February?
Where has the year gone?
As many of you know, last year the high school decided to drop the IB program due to the drastic drop in credits that local colleges were willing to offer for successful completion of the program. With this change at the high school and the changes in education in general, we couldn't help but ask some questions about the IB program here at the Junior high.
The big questions we kept coming back to center around who we are as a charter, and what our students really need to be ready and excited about their education as they move on to high school and beyond. This discussion spurred the conversation about what would education look like if we gave students more of an opportunity to take the lead and have a voice in their course selection and educational trajectory.
After months and months of dreaming, brainstorming, drafting, meeting, crying, and revising, we are so thrilled to officially present to you: The Patriot's Pathway! (Insert clapping and cheering here) The Patriot's Pathway is a new approach to education here at Providence Hall Junior High and is meant to act as a bridge from the beautiful IB program at the elementary that is centered around inquiry and service, as well as give our Patriots the opportunity to explore their interests and get some base skills before moving on to high school.
With the change in the charter focus at the Junior High, we will now have the opportunity to give our students far more choice and voice in both their electives and core classes. With this new structure, students will have access to new and exciting electives, a full spectrum of core classes to meet students where they are, and then continue to challenge them to grow.
Get excited Patriots! You will be seeing the new course requests cards in the next few weeks, and we can't wait to see your faces when you see all of the selections the students will have available to them starting next year.
As always Patriots... You are loved!

Families of current students do NOT need to complete open enrollment. On January 8 you will receive information via Skyward on how to confirm your child's enrollment for the 2022-23 school year.
Did You Know PHJH Now Has A Peer Tutoring Program?
Peer tutoring is a new program that has been in place this year at Providence Hall. This program is a chance for students to work in the special education setting and with students who have disabilities. Since the beginning of the year, this program has blossomed and all students are learning new and amazing things all while developing new friendships. These students learn how to work in different environments with different subjects ranging from core academics, electives such as intro to dance, and functional skills which can include cooking basic recipes. We hope to continue seeing this program flood with students and watch more friendships build and create the community feeling in the building that Providence Hall creates and strives for every single day.

A Wise Word From Our Amazing Nurse Mrs. Ponce
ATTENTION PARENTS OF 6TH GRADERS
This is just a friendly reminder that your 6th-grade students will need to receive some updated immunizations prior to entering the 7th grade. So as you are making your way to their well-child checks with their doctors, just be aware they will need 2 or 3 immunizations. They will need a dose of Tdap (tetanus-diptheria-pertussis), and Meningococcal. And if they haven't already received it, they'll need a 2nd dose of Varicella (chickenpox). They will not be able to attend classes next year until their immunizations are updated. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks so much
