Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 2 | 4 MAY 2022
The Kindy Blue children have been building secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships. Through building positive relationships they develop a sense of belonging. They may play and collaborate or they may enjoy a quiet time with others. At school they are building a strong sense of identity through connecting with their peers and teachers. At home they are building relationships with family members. This Sunday we celebrate a special relationship - to all the mums and mother –figures, Happy Mothers Day!
A Prayer for Mothers
Dear Lord,
We pray for mothers, who give life and count toes and tend to our every need; may they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy.
We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured and cared for us; may they continue to guide us in strong and gentle ways.
We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty or conflict; may they feel the loving embrace of our God who wipes away every tear.
We pray for women who are not mothers but still love and shape us with motherly care and compas- sion.
We remember mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever etched in our memory, with love.
Amen.
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
The children are now well settled into the new term and there is deep and engaging learning in all our classrooms. Last week I spent some time in the Kindy White classroom and was most impressed with the children’s oral language skills and the range of activities on offer to embed their knowledge on insects and to develop their fine motor strength.
Lunchtime survey
Thank you to all parents who completed our survey on eating times for lunch. We are gathering responses from our students and staff too and once we have all the data to analyse, we will make a decision about lunch eating times and publish the result in next week’s newsletter.
Uniform Survey
We sent a link to the survey we are running on our school uniform. We are surveying families, students and staff to seek their opinions on our school uniform. Currently we have three school uniforms - a summer, winter and sport uniform. There are many items across these three uniforms. We find that children often mix and match uniform items and this makes for an untidy looking school uniform. It is also extremely costly for parents to have to purchase all three uniforms, especially when primary aged children grow so quickly. We also believe that students should be able to decide if they are hot or cold and layer their uniform accordingly. We would like to investigate a smart but simple and more cost effective uniform, that can be layered for the cold weather and which would allow the children to more freely engage in physical activity during the school day. We look forward to hearing your thoughts on our school uniform. Please take the survey on the button below. The survey closes on Friday 13 May 2022.
Our current uniform supplier is low on stock for several winter uniform items and sizes due to international shipping delays caused by the pandemic. While you are waiting for uniform items to arrive in stock, you child is permitted to wear their sport uniform.
P&F
We had a wonderful P&F meeting last week, the first time the P&F has been able to meet in person this year. We were joined by Councillor James Rowe, from the City of Wanneroo. James was a former student at our school and is keen supporter of our school.
The P&F have been hard at work making many beautiful homemade items to sell at the Mother’s Day stall on Friday. Items are priced between $2.50 to $10. I have my eye on several exquisite homemade items and I am hoping that after the children have had an opportunity to make their purchases, there may still be something left for me to buy for myself. The items on sale, have been thoughtfully and lovingly made and we thank our P&F and especially those who have spent hours and hours crafting these gifts, for the magnificent work they do for our children and school community.
Naplan
Naplan testing starts next week and I would like to remind parents of children in Years 3 and 5 that Naplan is about making sure your child is progressing in the important areas of literacy and numeracy. Naplan also helps us see your child's growth and achievements. Please reassure your child about taking this test, there is no need for your child to feel worried or concerned. Naplan is simply one of many assessments that we use to track your child's development.
Mother's Day
As Sunday approaches, we keep all Mothers and those who also take care of children who are not their own, in our thoughts and especially in our prayers. We thank all Mothers for their tireless dedication to their children and we acknowledge the significant role they play in their children’s lives. We remember that Mary is a mother to all of us, setting a great example with her unwavering faith and trust in God. We ask that God bless Mothers with wisdom to teach and guide their children in a way that will help them to follow Jesus. We ask that God grant Mothers the patience to deal with the difficulties of their work and we pray that that their children will honour them always with a spirit of profound respect. We remember all Mothers who are no longer with us and we pray for their children on Mother’s Day.
God Bless You
Ondine Komnick
