Brentwood Special School District
Summer 2022 Edition
Dear Families,
Happy Summer!
I hope this newsletter finds you well. Last week we wrapped up ESY and Summer Programming here in Brentwood. Between our students who attended ESY and our students who attended Brentwood Summer Programs (Camp Learn and STEAM Camp) we had quite a busy and exciting summer experience. It was great seeing so many students engaged in learning.
I will be out of the office to spend time with my family July 8th-July 18th, however, I will follow-up on all communications when I return to the office. If you have something that requires immediate assistance, please contact my administrative assistant, Keishaa Mitchell (kmitchell@ssdmo.org).
Special education teachers/IEP case managers and service providers return to the district the week of August 15th. Be on the lookout for an welcome back communication from your student's case manager prior to the first day of school which is, and will be contacting the families the support prior to the start of the school year which is, Monday, August 22.

VIRTUAL LUNCH & LEARN SERIES FOR SSD FAMILIES AND STAKEHOLDERS
Special School District’s Family and Community Outreach, Social Work, Parent Education and Diversity Awareness (PEDA) and Communications departments have teamed up to offer a virtual Lunch & Learn series for SSD families and stakeholders.
Representatives from nine community organizations will participate in order to increase awareness about their agency and make connections with those in our SSD community who may benefit from their programs and services.
We will share updated dates and topics for the 22-23 school year when they become available.
SSD PARENT EDUCATION (PEDA)
The highly successful SSD Parent Leadership Institute that has had more than 280 participants since 2007 is once again being offered under a new name of Family Leadership Institute (FLI).
The Institute will be Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:30pm at SSD Central Office: October 12, 19, 26 and November 2.
If you are a parent or family member who makes the educational decisions for a child with a disability, investing the time to attend these four Wednesday evening sessions will provide:
VISION: for the future of your child.
KNOWLEDGE: to help effectively participate in your child's education.
LEADERSHIP SKILLS: to improve the educational climate for all children.
ACCESS: to new resources, friends, and experts to help you on your journey.
