Virtual Back to School Night 2020

Good afternoon, North Star Families!

As you know, Back to School Night has been modified to a virtual format. We are excited that this shift will allow all parents to learn about their child’s teachers and classes without conflicting schedules.

Here is the link to the school website that houses all teachers Back to School Night videos. Please check your child’s schedule in Home Access Center (HAC) paying specific attention to the teachers’ last names and the course your child has with them. On the website, you will notice that it is organized by the teacher’s last name using the tabs across the bottom of the page. When you open the teacher’s link, you will find a playlist organized by the classes they teach. Please select your child’s class to access the correct video.

We thank you for your flexibility, patience, and partnership.

Virtual Back to School Night 2020

Here is a communication from our SCN Athletic Boosters:

The pandemic has had a significant impact on schools and their extra-curricular programming. Along with that, it has been especially hard on our Athletic Boosters as two main sources of income, Booster Passes and concession sales, have been halted. Boosters remain committed to supporting our Student-Athletes but WE NEED YOUR HELP. We would like to ask that you purchase an SCN Athletic Booster Membership. Attached is a letter explaining how you can make that purchase. Along with every membership we will be including our Star Card that offers discounts to 26 local businesses. Using this card will easily offset the cost of your membership.

Thank you for your support,

SCN Athletic Booster Board

College & Career Readiness

The State of Illinois will be sponsoring a Fall SAT for the Class of 2021 on 9/23/20. All Seniors will automatically be registered for this exam. College Board projects an October 15 score release date for this exam administration. Under state law, every student must take the SAT before receiving a diploma, and the state has not waived this requirement for this year. Seniors who do not test on this date will be required to do so on the October make update or in April.

D303 is sponsoring a Fall PSAT 8/9 for the Freshman Class on Tuesday, 10/6/20. This will be an online exam, and students will need to bring their Chromebooks. The Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT exam on 10/14/20. The PSAT/NMSQT exam is a preliminary SAT that also opens the door to consideration for National Merit scholarships. The Sophomores will take the PSAT/NMSQT on Thursday, 10/29/20.

Student Life

One of the many great aspects of our programs is the opportunity for students to join clubs throughout the year. While many are yearlong, some organizations have more short term commitments. Once you choose what interests you, GET INVOLVED! This will provide you with invaluable connections to your peers, advisors, and the school while strengthening your commitment to academic excellence and your leadership skills.

For more information about the clubs and activities offered at St. Charles North, and when and where they meet, please click here.

Senior Portraits & Yearbook Pictures

Senior portrait appointments from the original dates with Root Studio are filled. If you didn't get an appointment yet, don't worry, Root Studio is adding more dates ASAP! Be on the lookout for more information.

Send Us Your Pictures!

Every couple of weeks the yearbook staff will send out requests for a certain type of photo for spreads we are working on for the yearbook. This week we would like the first day of school photos! Thank you to the families that already sent in a photo via e-mail.

Lincoln Award Nominee

A Very Large Expanse of Sea

By: Tahereh Mafi

"It's 2002, a year after 9/11 Shirin, a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl who's tired of being stereotyped. She's tired of the rude stares, the degrading comments--even the physical violence--she endures as a result of her race, her religion, and the hijab she wears every day. So she's built up protective walls and refuses to let anyone close enough to hurt her. Instead, she drowns her frustrations in music and spends her afternoons break-dancing with her brother. Then she meets Ocean James. He's the first person in forever who really seems to want to get to know Shirin. It terrifies her--and Shirin has had her guard up for so long that she's not sure she'll ever be able to let it down"
