May 14th COVID-19 Update
The Governor’s Task Force for Re-Entry has developed a website to compile resources and information for COVID-19. It should be a place where you can find information on what is open/closed and under what conditions as we continue to move forward. The education tab will continue to be populated as additional information is made available. Under the resources tab, approved signage for doors, entrances, etc. are available for you to print. There is also a list of vendors who have PPE supplies to purchase; they are listed on the website: https://arkansasready.com/ Hope this helps, and feel free to pass the link along to your community.
The Governor is expected to present guidelines for summer activities during his daily media address sometime next week. The guidelines may apply to sport programs, youth league, AAA sanctioned events, etc. There may also be guidance for additional activities held on a school campus such as testing, summer programs, etc. However, you saw where the numbers in Arkansas have increased over the last week. So any additional announcements may be delayed until that data says it is safe to continue to open up Arkansas.
DESE will provide a webinar on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. to overview the CARES Act – Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds.
For additional information see Commissioner’s Memo COM-20-119 http://adecm.arkansas.gov/ViewApprovedMemo.aspx?Id=4409 Arkansas schools will be eligible for $115 million and must file applications specifying how these funds will be used.
At the State Board of Education meeting on Thursday, Secretary Key reported that the “Back to School Playbook” is close to publication and will be posted on a new state webpage focusing on the re-entry and re-engagement of students and teachers in the coming months. The Playbook, compiled by 130 or so Arkansas educators, will identify skills that students missed due to the sudden closure of schools in March. It will also include lesson plans for filling in the gaps when classes resume.
PD Hours for BES Staff
For the 2020-21 school year, we will be required to have 15 Flex PD hours. BES staff will obtain 13 of the required hours by attending PD on the BES campus July 27-28th from 8:00 AM- 3:30 PM with one hour given for lunch on your own. During this time we will continue our work with Professional Learning Communities. For the remaining two hours, you will need to take two hours of Arkansas History PD on the IDEAS website. For documentation of the PD on IDEAS, you must email a copy of the PD certificate to Mrs. Walker. Options that you may include for Arkansas History PD are: https://ideaslms.aetn.org
You can start working on these PD hours now. Any PD that you have done during the month of May can count toward the professional development requirement for next year
IDEAS PD is due for paraprofessionals and clerical support staff on May 28th.
You will need to type the code into the search box to look up the PD title.

What to do if you don’t have Internet access:
If someone does not have Internet access at home, there are several locations around the district and town with free Wi-Fi access.
Blytheville Elementary School: Parking lot in front of the 5th grade building. School-issued devices should automatically connect.
Blytheville Middle School: Front of building parking lot. School-issued devices should automatically connect.
Blytheville High School: The parking lot to the south of the front entrance. This is normally where teachers park. Also, the parking lot between the cafeteria and main building.
Blytheville Administration Building: The rear parking lot closest to the building.
Haley Field: The home side bleachers.
The downtown area: Ritter Communications has put several Wi-Fi access points throughout Main St. for free public access.
Many of the fast food restaurants have free Wi-Fi access, but I do not know if it is powerful enough to be accessed in their parking lots.

R.I.S.E. Days 4-6 Training
The R.I.S.E. Training for days 4-6 has been rescheduled for June 9-11th from 8:30 - 3:30 PM. Lunch is from 11:30 - 12:30 on your own. As a reminder, this training is mandated by the Department of Education. We have been in contact with the Crowley’s Ridge Educational Coop and they are willing to provide the training to us directly so we do not have to travel. This will also help us not have to provide coverage throughout the year once school starts and so we will be equipped with more tools from the start of the school year. The training will be held in the Blytheville Elementary School Cafeteria with the following safety protocol in place:
Participants will consist of Blytheville School District personnel.
Participants will be seated at least 6 feet apart.
Participants will be sent to the rest room 1 person at a time.
Restrooms will be cleaned hourly (arrangements have been made with Sg360 personnel).
Tables will be disinfected during breaks.
Participants will be required to wear masks.
The presenter will stand at least 12 feet away from participants (will not wear a mask while presenting, but will wear a mask when approaching participants).
There is no collaborative work. All activities are individualized.
Participants must bring their own snacks, drinks, and writing utensils.
The presenter will bring handouts.
Classroom Placement
Your assistance is needed regarding student placement for next year. You were asked to provide information related to student behavior, academics, and regarding friends who students should not be placed in the classroom with. Please respond to the Class Creator survey if you have not already done so. We will not send home teacher request forms this year. Students will be assigned homeroom teachers based on their individual academic needs.

A Simple Thank You Isn't Enough
We would like to wish all of you a safe and relaxing Summer Break. The learning experiences that have taken place this year could not have happened without a great deal of commitment and support from you all. You are to be applauded for the way in which you have embraced the challenges of virtual learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The last two months have been surreal with social distancing, stay at-home orders, being away from friends and family, wearing masks, and all those things that have now become our new norm. But, we are privileged to be a part of a school with highly capable and committed teachers and support staff. One of the critical factors of any successful school is the staff. There has never been a time when being a teacher has been more demanding or challenging. To our teachers and support staff, thank-you for your energy, passion and enthusiasm.
Before you go your various ways for the summer, we want to sincerely thank each of you for the contribution you make to the success of Blytheville Elementary School and to the success of our learners. Together we make a difference in the learning experiences and opportunities for each of our students. We will continue to do this even as we receive guidance about what blended learning will look like for us next year.
Thank you again for all you do for the students and families that we serve and looking forward to when we can see you all together again!
Love,
Mrs. Walker and Ms. Adelowo
