The Lion's Share
November 2019
Message from the Principal:
Dear Settler's Point Families,
You may have heard the GREAT news!! Settler's Point was just recently awarded with the prestigious “A” ranking by the Arizona Department of Education. The teachers, staff, parents and students have worked tirelessly to earn this distinction. This is the first time that we have earned this ranking at Settler's Point since 2014. The exceptional growth from last year's grade is unprecedented in the Gilbert district.
Arizona’s A-F Accountability System was designed to empower schools to achieve and increase success for their students. The system provides districts and schools feedback on areas of strength and those that may need additional focus and enrichment. The system is intended to help schools and districts improve student outcomes, communication with parents to better understand how their school is performing, and to help identify schools and districts that may be in need of support.
Schools earn a letter grade based on a range of metrics including:
● Proficiency in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science
● Growth in English Language Arts and Mathematics
● Proficiency and Growth of English Language Learners
● Acceleration and Readiness Measures, consisting of several items including reduction of chronic absenteeism and the improved growth of subgroups
Every year beginning in 2017, each elementary, junior high, and high school will receive a Letter Grade. These designations will use quantitative and qualitative data to assess performance. The Letter Grades used are as follows: A = Excellent B = Highly Performing C = Performing D = Minimally Performing F = Failing
As you can imagine, we are celebrating our hard work and putting a plan in place to continue this high achieving momentum. If at any point there is something that I can do to help, please do not hesitate to ask!
My sincerest gratitude,
Robert Bircher
Very Proud Principal

Use of Substitutes....
With the implementation of the new reading and writing curriculum (ReadyGEN), each team has had further district training on how to utilize all of the features. In addition, we have paid to send each grade level of teachers to different GPS schools to observe ReadyGEN instruction from teachers that have been utilizing it for over a year.
Teachers are learners too, and we feel like this is the best way to ensure we are delivering high quality instruction to our students.

Infinite Campus...
As part of this training, we committed to the following:
- All teachers kindergarten through sixth grade are committed to using Infinite Campus as their reporting tool to parents.

Music News:
Fourth grade students will be performing a music program. We encourage all parents and families of the 4th Graders and Veteran’s to attend. We would like to invite any veteran’s who are related to the students at our school and in our school community neighborhood to come to this presentation so that we may show our respect and recognize their service.
All veteran’s need to call the office at 507-1481 x 304 to RSVP to provide special seating.
The program will include a Flag Ceremony. ALL STUDENTS are encouraged to wear RED, WHITE, and BLUE, as part of the school spirit day activities. If your student belongs to the Girl or Boy Scouts, they are invited to wear their uniform to school that day.
We look forward to recognizing and honoring all American Heroes at our school that day.
