Young Hoosier Voting
Young Hoosier voting is now open! Voting will run from April 1 - June 1.
If you are in grades K-3 and have read/listened to 12 of the books listed, you may vote for the primary books.
Picture books were read while we were still in school to all students in grades K-3. This makes EVERYONE in grades K-3 eligible to vote!
If you are in grades 4 or 5, and you have read 5 of the 20 books, you may vote for the intermediate books.
If you read at least 3 of the middle grade books, you may vote in that category, as well.
Please click HERE to vote online!
When students/parents vote directly, the ballot gives you the option to notify a teacher or librarian. Students will need to know the email address of the teacher / librarian they wish to notify. If students elect to notify a teacher / librarian, students are asked to provide their own first name, as well as the first initial of their last name. For students who don't wish to notify anyone, voting is anonymous.

Toilet Paper Planters
SUPPLIES: • 6 empty toilet paper rolls • ruler • scissors • duct tape • spoon • potting soil • seeds of your choice • small shoebox-size plastic container
STEPS:
1. Using the ruler and scissors, make four 1/4-inch-long cuts around one end of each toilet paper roll.
2. Fold each cut strip inward until they begin to overlap, creating a solid bottom. Use duct tape to strengthen the bottom of each roll.
3. Use the spoon to fill each roll with soil, close to the top.
4. Tuck a few seeds into the soil in each roll.
5. Put the rolls in the plastic container and place it near a sunny window inside. Sprinkle with water daily. (Read the instructions on the seed packet for more care instructions.)
6. Watch your garden grow!
