Bad Weather Make Up Professional Development Days
The 2014 – 2015 KISD Instructional Calendar designates two District Holiday/Bad Weather Make-up Days on February 16 and April 6. As you know, KISD closed for three inclement weather days occurring after the February 16, President’s Day, school holiday. State law requires that school districts must make-up two missed inclement weather days before being permitted to apply for a waiver for any additional days missed. As a result, Monday, April 6 will be utilized as our first make-up day.
After researching and carefully considering options, KISD will utilize a previously approved waiver to add an additional professional development day to our calendar. This will allow us flexibility in how we make up the second inclement weather day. We will not require students to attend school on Memorial Day or on a Saturday, when poor attendance would be likely. While it will require professional staff to complete an additional six hours of professional development, we believe that this will be a more valuable use of our time and allow us to proactively address areas of instructional need. Keller ISD will request a TEA waiver for the third make-up day.
Please see the two training options below regarding the additional professional development day. Training sessions will be designed to address ELA across the curriculum for ALL instructional staff including special education teachers, co-curricular teachers, counselors, librarians, specialists, etc.
- Option 1: Attend after-school professional development mini-sessions on campus. **Staff must attend ALL sessions in order to receive 6-hour credit.** (April 16 and 30; May 7, 14, 21, and 28; Make up session June 4th)
- Option 2: Attend a 6-hour district-based professional development session on Saturday, June 6th
Note: Specialized training will be provided by Health Services for campus nurses and the Special Education Department will provide specialized training for diagnosticians and therapists. Paraprofessional staff and non-exempt employees will not be required to attend this additional professional development training.
