Heights Updates
April 30, 2021
From The Principal
This has no doubt been a challenging year for most all of us. In spite of the pandemic, isolation, virtual learning and all of the stress and anxiety that has come with it, Heights High School Students have done AMAZING things this year!
Our football team came in 1st in district play for the first time in the schools 6A history and made it to the second round of the playoffs (and broke Lamar High Schools 76 game winning streak). Our Volleyball Team finished strong in district play and competed in the first round of the playoffs. Our Varsity Girls Basketball Team finished first in district play for the second consecutive year . Our Varsity boys basketball team finished second in district play. Both teams reached the Regional Quarter Finals in the playoffs. Girls Soccer finished second in district plays while Boys Soccer finished fourth with both teams making it to the playoffs. Our Girls Softball Team end the season as the second place team in district and made it to the playoffs in 9 years! They hardily defeated Stratford High School Wednesday night to move on to the second round! Baseball has one game left in the season, but has already clenched a play off spot.
Heights Redcoats are National, yes you read that right, NATIONAL champions. Our Bulldog Band had a great season both on and off the field. Most recently receiving 1st Division ratings at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest. Within all of these groups there were a number of students recognized individually for their contributions.
We have also had a National Merit Scholar, surpassed the amount of award money for seniors than we had last year, 14 students have successfully completed Level 1 Certificates in Digital Communications through their HCC Dual Credit classes and more! We will highlight more Academic Accomplishments as we close out the year.
I'm so Bulldog proud of our students and our teachers who have supported them in their endeavors through all of the challenges. I know the year has been challenging, and I know we don't always get it right, but as we begin Teacher Appreciation Week next week, please reach out and thank a teacher past or present that has made a difference in your child's life. They need your encouragement as we work to finish the year strong!
From the AP Coordinator, Ms. Martinez
AP paper exams begin next week.
