Assignments for COVID Related Absences
For the 22-23 school year, students that are absent due to illness will receive any missed and/or make-up assignments upon return to school. They will have 5 days to return the completed work to their teacher. This is in accordance with AC Moore's typical absence policy. Devices and extended absence assignments will not be sent home this year. Virtual check-in sessions with students will also not occur. Those practices and procedures were in place as a result of Richland One's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bobcat Families--Please note that the neighbors directly across from the front of the school are having difficulties getting their trash picked up when vehicles are parked in front of their homes and along the edge of their yard. Your courtesy and consideration would be greatly appreciated in addressing their concerns. When visiting the school, please park in the visitors parking area at the corner of Etiwan Avenue and Rosewood Drive and along the street in designated parking spaces.
Important Carline Pick-up and Drop-off Reminders
In an effort to keep the carline safe for students and staff, it is requested that the following carline procedures be followed during the morning and afternoon carline.
- Please pull as far forward to the end of the carline (towards Rosewood Dr.) before stopping your vehicle to allow your student to enter/exit through the gate; do not stop at the main entrance to let students out of or into the car.
- Students are to get out on the passenger side of the carline only, not from the driver side, side facing the road.
- Parents should remain in the car and allow school staff to assist the students into or out of cars.

A Bobcat Shout-Out To...
...Rahini, NASA Space Place Art Challenge Winner!
For the art challenge, NASA challenges young explorers to think about and draw a space-related situation each month. Most recently, participants were asked to share what they are most thankful for on Earth. Following the submission deadline, NASA selected a few imaginative drawings to be featured on the NASA Space Place website!
Rahini, a first grader in Mrs. Frick's homeroom, had her artwork (above) featured on the NASA Space Place website in November! Congratulations Rahini!
Visit NASA Space Place Art Challenge for more information.
...Ms. Dekine, 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year!
Ms. Tomeika Dekine earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Coker University and her Master of Arts from Liberty University. Ms. Dekine is in her 7th year in education and in her 2nd year at AC Moore. She is currently a 4th grade teacher. In addition to being a teacher, Ms. Dekine has also worked at the Disney Store in North Myrtle Beach. Ms. Dekine loves working at AC Moore because the atmosphere is open, happy, and inviting.
Ms. Dekine is from Georgetown, South Carolina. In addition to working with students, in her free time she loves reading, shopping, and sleeping. Although Ms. Dekine is passionate about the knowledge and growth her students gain from having her as a teacher, she also looks forward to nurturing a family of her own in the future.
Congratulations, Ms. Dekine, on being selected as A.C. Moore's Teacher of the Year!

Winter Counting | Take 5: Poetry Brain Breaks
“Winter Counting” by Joseph Bruchac
Healthier Generation, Kohl’s Healthy at Home, and Pomelo Books have teamed up to bring students and families a special series of Poetry Brain Breaks.
What has been a meaningful experience for you in the past year?
Reading and writing poetry is a great way to observe and describe nature with words and images. As a proud Nulhegan Abenaki Native American and author of 100+ books for young people, Joseph Bruchac shares an Abenaki custom in “Winter Counting.” Read his observations of the seasons changing and reflect on your experiences in the past year.
“Winter Counting” is included in English and Spanish in The Poetry Friday Anthology for Celebrations by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong.
