Raddatz Review
October 10, 2016
October Learning
This class does a nice job working together in a variety of ways. Many students have become more comfortable with trying and (gulp!) even making mistakes. Although making a mistake can be stressful, we want children to experience mistakes in personal and education situations so they can handle the feelings that go along with it and still continue on. Perseverance is key!
Will your child be out of school? Call the attendance line.
Fun Run
Then, we used the line plot to find the total number of laps for our classroom. This was a nice connection to some of the mathematic ideas from our lessons.
Please send in any money to go towards the Fun Run in the next few days. Every dollar counts! Please send in any amount! Pledge sheets are going home today ONLY for those children that did not send in money already.
Thanks for your support!
Career and Hobby Days
As an example...
Our third grade team completes a service learning project, where we tie community service to our 3rd grade objectives to be taught. We often dream of using woodworking, simple carpentry, sewing, or other skills the third grade teachers do not have. Interested and have a skill? Please consider letting me know.
(Grandparents or other close family members or friends are OK, too!)
Reading
We will be practicing this as a class reading My Name is Maria Isabel and then later, Because of Winn Dixie.
Home Reading Log
The Home Reading Log is coming home today in student binders. Please have your child log their reading. It is great if they can read every day at home, but I realize that busy nights may not be possible.
It is important for me to see what types of books your child is reading and how many pages are being read. I would love to see an honest look at their reading. It is important for the students to do their own log--you have enough on your plate mom or dad! Reminders are great, but they should do it on their own.
Thanks for your support!
Writing
We will work to SHOW the reader what is happening instead of just TELLING what is happening.
Math
That being said, we have been reviewing two and three digit addition and subtraction. This will continue with some work on story problems. Word problems are even more challenging than they were when we were young. Students need to find the answers to many problems, use the first answer to help with a second, and determine which information is not needed. This can be very difficult for 8 and 9 year olds!
Math Home Assignment
These will continue to come home from time to time over the year.
Book Order
If you would ever like to hold an order as a gift, let me know and we can arrange a private pick up! :-)
Thanks for your orders!
