Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
As many of you know, there was an emergency situation at GOHS today due to a hazmat incident. While our TLES community was not directly impacted as authorities assured us that air quality outside was completely safe, we understand that we share families with GOHS and so many of our Eagle families may have had some scary moments today.
Additionally, TLES supported GOHS by welcoming some special needs students on our campus for a portion of the day. We were happy and proud to have played a role in supporting our feeder high school and impressed with our high school and district colleagues as we all worked together to ensure student safety and well-being.
Please know that every school in the district has a school safety/disaster preparedness plan which we review annually and that we practice to the extent possible throughout the year.
On another note, we want to thank all our families that attended our Eagle-I launch last night and signed up to volunteer on campus one day. Our goal is to work toward every family volunteering at least one day each school year. We know you are busy but it really does take our combined efforts to make our school the safest, most welcoming and successful place for our students and that means WE need to work together to make that happen. Please contact Mrs. Maribel Castillo in the front office for information on Eagle-I participation if you weren't able to attend last night and/or be looking for another opportunity coming soon.
Wishing you a safe and healthy 3-day weekend.
Sincerely,
Lani Russi
Principal, TLES

Pick Up and Drop Off
Our gates open at 8:35 AM. Please do not drop students off before 8:35 AM as there is no supervision for them.
Students may walk or ride their bikes to school, be walked to the gate, or be dropped off in the pick-up/drop-off loop. Families may walk students to their classroom door on the first day of school only but may not enter the classroom nor linger outside to avoid a crowded situation. Starting day 2, families may not enter campus and should drop students off in the loop or at the gate.
Please ensure you remain in your vehicle when using the drop-off loop and that you continue to pull forward to keep traffic moving. Please do not drop off your child in the loop until after you pass the crosswalk/office doors. There is no dropping off until after you pass the crosswalk and you will be asked to pull forward. Please be respectful to our staff on duty and to other families by following this process. If you would like to walk your students to their gate, please park in the lot or along the street but not in the loop.
We also ask that you please model safe and appropriate behavior for our students by using crosswalks rather than walking through traffic. There are crosswalks located in front of the office and at the stop sign near the kinder playground.
DISMISSAL (PICK-UP)
Modified dismissal is at 12:55 PM for all students. The first day of school is a modified day.
Dismissal on regular days is 3:15 PM for grades 1-5, 12:55 PM for Early Bird TK and Kinder, and 2:25 for Late Bird TK and Kinder.
Please be courteous to others and do not leave your vehicle while you are in the loop. If you plan to meet your child at the gate, please park in the parking lot or on the street.
Please NO PARKING in the loop and again we ask that you please use crosswalks located in front of the office or near the kinder playground rather than walking through traffic. We want to keep everyone safe and model appropriate behavior for our students.
Traffic Safety
At TLES safety is our first priority. With that in mind, we would like to ask once again that families please remember:
* Please reduce speed when driving near the school, particularly through the pick-up and drop-off loop.
* Please use the crosswalks. We still have parents darting through traffic oftentimes with their children in tow. This is extremely dangerous and does not model how we would want students to safely cross a street.
* Please obey traffic laws including not double parking. Just because the parking lot is full does not allow you to block others in. If you get to the lot after all spaces are filled you will need to get in line to drive through the loop or park on the street and walk to pick up students.
* Please ensure your car does not cross over into the crosswalk in the loop or the streets. Your bumper should meet the limit line, not cross it.
Families often ask us why our traffic seems so congested and the answer is that the school was built as a neighborhood school where most students would walk. However, since most of our families choose to drive students to school, we need to be patient and courteous and follow the safe and legal requirements to keep everyone safe.
The back two rows of the parking lot are blocked off to prevent students from being dropped off and picked up in the parking lot. Students may only be picked up in the loop. If families need or want to park and walk to meet their students at the gate, you may pull through in lane 2 and then turn left into the lot.
The loop near BASES is only intended for use by our special needs and BASES students who were given passes. If you do not have a pass, we ask that you please do not drop off or pick up in that area. If your student rides a bike or scooter to and from school please ensure they wear a safety helmet.
