November Reading Reward
It's hard to believe December is almost here! Reading calendars for the month of November will be due Tuesday, December 1. I'll be checking calendars next week to see who is on track to earn the reward so please make sure all calendars are up to date.
Compass Goals
This Monday we are tracking week 6 of our Compass goals. That means only 3 weeks until goals are due! There will be a celebration for those who meet BOTH Reading and Math school-wide, as well as classroom celebrations for those who meet their goals. Goals are due on Friday, December 11. If you see a note on the report that says "behind", this lets you know how many lessons they need to catch up and be on track towards meeting their goals. If there is not note that says "behind", your child is on track towards meeting their goals. If I see that your child is significantly behind, I will be contacting you so we can make a plan for your child to make up the missing lessons. Remember, Compass can be used at home and accessed through Carroll County Links on the Carroll County Schools website.
AR Goals
AR goals are due on Friday, December 18. Several students are close to meeting their goal already! These books can be taken to and from school and read at home for both monthly reading minutes and to help towards meeting their goal! Sounds like a win-win to me!
We Are Learning To...
Language Arts
This week we will continue to look at a variety of texts and use those texts to answer questions, find the gist (main idea), author's message and use our context clues to discover the meaning of unfamiliar words. We will also be looking at writing a paragraph with a topic sentence and supporting details.
Math
In Math we will be reviewing and wrapping up Topic B: measuring weight in grams/kilograms and capacity in liters/milliliters. The students will test over this material this week. Be on the lookout for a Topic C newsletter so you can help your child with these upcoming concepts at home.
