The Three Theories of Emotion
Definition: the physical reaction that occurs creates the emotion.
Pounding Heart (Arousal)
In this picture it shows that the guy behind the wheel has his heart pounding. This is important because the signal of his heart pounding is his body's arousal to the event of seeing the oncoming car.
Then the guy behind the wheel feels fear, which is the emotion. He is realizing that he could be heart because of the oncoming car.
Definition: the physical reaction and the feeling occur at the same time
Pounding Heart (arousal) and Fear (emotion)
In this picture for this theory. The guy behind the wheel will feel his arousal (pounding heart) and his emotion (fear) at the exact same moment.
Definition: This suggests that thinking and labeling what we experience causes the emotion
Pounding Heart (Arousal) and "I'm afraid" (Cognitive Label)
In this picture the guy behind the wheel will feel his arousal (pounding heart) and also be able to think about his reaction and label it.
Finally he will feel his fear, the guy behind the steering wheel will have processed everything in the previous steps and will finally feel that he should be fearful of the oncoming car.
