The Walden Weekly
School News You Can Use - Nov. 18, 2022
Dear Walden Families,
Today, student progress reports are available on our Family Access platform under the PORTFOLIO tile. Our teachers and staff worked on their grades and comments very thoughtfully and look forward to having a more intimate discussion next week during our conferences. One component of social-emotional learning that we have been focusing on within our instruction is having a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset. When speaking with your child about their progress, using growth mindset language will be very beneficial for students to understand the capacity they have to learn and grow. See the resource below on helping your child in developing this mindset shift.
We look forward to seeing you next week at conferences!
Enjoy your weekend!

Chicago Weather... Here We Come!
Now that winter weather has begun, I wanted to share a quick reminder to send your child(ren) with winter and snow gear for recess. We strive to have outdoor recess whenever the weather allows it (15 degrees "real-feel" and above) as it gives kids a much needed chance to get some fresh air, sun, and an opportunity to run around.
- Warm jacket
- Hat
- Scarf
- Gloves/mittens
- Boots and snow pants as needed (children with boots and snow pants are allowed to play in the snow)
- An extra set of winter clothes at school in case they get wet outside.
We ask you to LABEL all jackets and winter gear so that lost items can be easily returned to your children.
Please help us keep the children happy outdoors by sending them to school with appropriate cold weather attire.

The 109 Gives Back Holiday Gift Drive Is Here!
Happy Friday, DPS 109 Families. From the snow we got this week to the lights outside, the Holiday Season is officially here. We are excited to kick off this joyful time with our 109 Gives Back district-wide Holiday Gift Drive!
Wish lists are now LIVE. You can view it by clicking here or scanning the QR code you see on any flyer. Each item will help a local family fulfill their holiday wishes!
We will have holiday-themed boxes lined up the lobby of each school between November 28th - December 9th to drop off gifts. If you are bringing gift cards, we ask that you please drop them off at our district office.
We are thankful for our generous community and looking forward to making dozens of families’ holidays brighter this year! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact communications@dps109.org.
