Franklin Elementary Showcase
It was a packed house for Franklin showcase night this past week! It was great to see so many of our families. Thanks to Mrs. Cunningham and all of our specialist teachers for their work in getting it organized and to our teachers and staff for their support! Great job by our students on their music program, artwork and tech projects!
Last week, the Franklin staff did a fundraiser to help families in Winterset who were affected by the recent tornado. We were able to raise over $400 and will be sending gas and grocery cards to help families who were displaced and those in need of assistance with cleanup
Middle School Toreador of the Week
Michaella Anderson is the Middle School Toreador of the Week. Michaella is in 6th grade and was chosen because she is Responsible, Respectful and Caring. Michaella exhibits this by turning her work in on time, arriving to class ready to learn, and being respectful and caring toward her teachers and peers. Michaella exhibits responsibility by asking questions when she is not sure about something. She showcases respectfulness by listening to others and following directions. Finally, Michaella demonstrates her capacity for caring by being aware of feelings of others around her and showing compassion and empathy. Michaella is not only a model student, but an absolute joy to have in class. She is incredibly well-liked by her teachers and classmates. Way to go, Michaella!

Meet our EDGE Students
Kennedy Lewis
One of our favorite new opportunities has come this year in the career field of being a dental assistant. The wait list for becoming a dental hygienist is long at our local community colleges so an easy way to get started right away is to look into starting out as a dental assistant. Not only do students get to earn as they learn, but get started as an assistant can help boost student's name up the dental hygienist list with their local colleges.
One of our incredible students, Kennedy Lewis is venturing down this path currently. Kennedy is a senior at Boone High School and in the EDGE Internship course.
Throughout the semester, Kennedy has been learning all about the dental field and dental assisting from Dr. Matt at Pyfferoen Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Matt is an instructor at the University of Iowa and has been an incredible resource for Kennedy. It's truly a family atmosphere at Pyfferoen Pediatric Dentistry and for someone who loves working with children and learning, this is a fabulous fit for Kennedy. Kennedy also has such a kind spirit and growth mindset in learning that she will do well in anything she puts her mind to. We are just so happy to have found one of her top choices for a partnership.
After high school, she plans to continue to work as a dental assistant at the office and eventually get certified. She has already learned so much from the last couple of weeks she has been working there and she is so excited to continue learning about the dental field and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
Again, huge thanks to Matt Pyfferoen for partnering with us, the dental board, and Dr. Mower for their guidance throughout this year in learning more about this field!
If you happen to take your children to Pyfferoen Dentistry, say hi to Kennedy!

There will be an opportunity for 4 students to participate at each home game. Each participant will receive a t-shirt to wear during the game that they will get to keep. They will also receive free entry into the game along with 4 passes for family/friends to get into that same game. Free School Breakfast and Lunch for all Students for the 2021-2022 school year
Tasty Toreador Meals - Supply Chain Issues
• This school year, thanks to federal pandemic waivers, all students will be eligible for free meals, regardless of family income.
• School meal programs nationwide are experiencing many of the same supply chain issues that have impacted restaurants and grocery stores throughout the pandemic.
• Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students continue to have access to healthy meals each school day.
• Just as families have to make substitutions on grocery lists, schools will have to make some last-minute changes to our regular menus, based on availability.
• We hope parents and students will be patient as we sort through these supply chain issues.
• We may not have the same menu choices that we typically offer our students, but we’ll be sure that all students are nourished and ready to learn.
*Reminder: For students bringing a sack lunch and wanting school milk, there will be a .50 cent charge per carton.

Athletics Registration
Toreador Families,
Our "Online Athletics Registration" is live and active for the 2021-22 School Year (link is below). Please take the time to read through the information, and fill out the forms for your student. All students involved in District-Sponsored Athletics in grades 7-12 will need a completed online athletics registration on file, along with a current physical form (physicals are valid for 13 months after the date of the physical). There is a place within the registration to upload the completed physical form.
Completion of the Registration/Physical is not required for the attendance at any summer camps that may be offered. However, the Athletics Registration and Physical Form must be completed and on file before a student may physically participate in practice this Fall. For High School, this starting date is Monday August 9th. Middle School practices will begin a couple weeks later near the first day of school.
