After School Activities
Dear McCarthy Parents/Guardians and Students,
Students at the middle schools can participate in a variety of after school activities. The activities offered this year are listed on the attached pages. We strongly encourage ALL students to participate in at least one activity as an important element in middle school development.
If your child wants to participate in an after-school activity for the 2020-22 school year, the activity fee is $50.00 per child. This is a one-time fee and it allows students to participate in as many activities they choose. Checks should be made payable to Chelmsford Public Schools and may be turned in during homeroom. Student must also bring in a completed Activities Agreement Form and Activities Health Form (both attached) along with the payment. An activity card will be issued to your child to permit him/her to participate in all after school activities for the school year. The fee is used to help defray the cost of the stipends given to advisors for each of the activities. The fee is not to pay for late buses.
The Late Bus Routes (also attached) will be given to the students along with their activity card. Please review the appropriate bus route and bus number carefully. It is important to note that the Late Bus Routes are very different from the morning and afternoon regular bus routes. Generally, the late bus routes necessitate that students walk a greater distance from the bus stop than their regular school bus requires. Please review the Late Bus # and stop with your child as they will probably both be different than the regular daily bus they may take. Middle school parents should know that Chelmsford High School students also utilize the late bus system. Students being picked up from activities will be dismissed from the doors next to the cafeteria.
After school activities and late buses will begin on Wednesday, October 20 (Tuesday, October 19 is an early release day). Late buses run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week. Late bus privileges are only for students who participate in after school activities, extra help, or intramurals.
If you have any questions about the programs or wish further information, please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
Mr. McPhee Mrs. Calobrisi
Hello McCarthy Community-
Here's an amended Activities Booklet. A couple of activities/clubs did not list rooms and/or days:
- Dungeons and Dragons meets on Wednesdays in Room 203
- Festival Orchestra meets on Wednesdays in Room 124
Late Buses hopefully will depart McCarthy between 3:45-4:05. This has been the typical time in the past. Please note these routes are longer and can be as long as 45 minutes to complete. Please go over the route with your children as it will most likely be a different bus number than their regular route. Children should give the driver their address and need to stay alert as to when they need to be dropped off.
All clubs except ASL will start on October 20. Tuesday, October 19 is an early release day. ASL will still have it's first meeting which is virtual on Thursday, October 14.
Weekly Bulletin- We will use our weekly bulletin to send out the schedule for the activities meeting the following week.
Regards,
Mr. McPhee
From McCarthy Drama
Drama club is getting started and this year we are presenting Moana Jr. This club is a bit different than other clubs in that you need to be a part of the cast, attend rehearsals two days a week for 2 hours and commit to all three performances.
We have multiple rehearsals each week that end at 4:45, we have lots of parent involvement and sometimes we can’t take everyone that auditions. Performance dates are February 4, 2022—7PM,and February 5, 2022—-2PM & 7 PM. Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Additional rehearsal days will be added in January, and we will rehearse every day for the 2 weeks prior to performances. You-may not be required to come to every rehearsal, your role will determine which ones you need to attend. But you will need to be available on those days from 2:45-4:45. A calendar will be distributed on the first rehearsal, so everyone will know upfront which rehearsals they need to attend. Students will not be able to take the late bus home on rehearsal days-unless you-are specifically scheduled to do so, Please be sure that you can get transportation home at 4:45 PM prior to auditioning. The school production rely heavily on parent support. Parents are asked to volunteer in at least one area of need. A parent will be required-to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, October 21, at 6:45PM in Mrs. Richardson’s classroom. '
Those interested in stage crew, stay tuned!! Information for you will be coming out soon !
