Impacting Education
Proposition 51 was passed, which would provide state matching funds for school construction projects all over California. To date, no bonds have been sold and no funds have been released. These monies could help Measure K bond dollars go a lot farther.

A Word of Thanks
"We want to thank everyone in the District and their families for all your prayers and generosity. It has touched our hearts to see how many thoughtful people were thinking about us and what we are going through. A special Thank You to Tammi Ramos, Becky Hightman, Pat Brasier and Polly Jonsson, without their organizing effort ( which I was not aware of until after they got everything rolling ) , things would not have happened.
Thank you all and may God Bless."

Wall Fire
"I worked with folks from outside our district to get donations for the evacuees of the Wall fire and working with Shuberts Ice Cream; they graciously opened up their business to accommodate all the stuff that was donated. So much was donated in such a short time that they couldn't keep up with delivering the goods to Oroville. Two of my most awesome employees stepped up and said please let us help. So with that M/O provided two men and a truck and delivered this to the needy in Oroville. With all that has happened with this fire we are truly blessed with the kind hearts at M/O. Just wanted you to know."

Grant Exploration - Support & Opportunities
A Letter from Liz Metzger, Grants & Resource Development
"Dear CUSD Staff:
This year, I have stepped back into a full-time grant writing role for the Chico Unified School District. While most of my time is devoted to writing, supporting, and reporting on district-wide grants, I hope to be a resource for those of you who would like to apply for smaller grants to support classroom or program needs. I plan to keep you informed of grant opportunities as I learn of them, either through a grants page on the district website, through emails, or both. And while I can’t realistically promise to write grants for you, I will support your writing and provide guidance to the extent that my other district duties permit.
All grants applied for by district personnel need to be approved by Ed Services and Fiscal Services, to ensure that the district can comply with whatever requirements the funder might impose. To streamline that process, we are asking that all prospective grant seekers to do the following:
- Send me an Intent to Apply for Grant Funding form before you begin writing (email is best)
- Send me a copy of your final application before you submit it to the funder, so that I can get approval from Ed Services and Fiscal Services
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about these processes, or about grant funding in general. Meanwhile, I hope your year is off to a great start. I look forward to working with you in the year to come."

From the Principal at Marigold
Kelly is a parent restricted aide and yard supervisor. She has two boys at Marigold in second and fourth grade. She loves the amazing staff at Marigold. Kelly- You are so fun and energetic and have an eagerness to be involved as a parent and employee. I see you donating your time and your heart to Marigold and I thank you for that.
Lori is a second grade teacher in room 15. She loves the friends she works with at Marigold. She also shared that she loves dogs and she can make great elephant sounds. Lori, I appreciate your kindness to all. You are thoughtful and creative and you think of others and strive to bless lives of all those around you."
Amber is a fourth grade teacher in room 21. She said she loves how kind and inclusive the staff and students are here. She appreciates that Marigold has a supportive, nurturing, and fun culture. Amber can do a headstand while saying the alphabet backwards. Someday she wants to own a ranch and adopt as many homeless dogs and cats as she can take care of. Amber- I love how quickly you jumped in and got involved last year as a new teacher to Marigold. Most people would never guess that you have only been here a year. You are vibrant, hard working, and add so much to our Marigold family.
Katy is a third grade teacher in room 23. She said she loves the staff at Marigold. She also loves rafting. Katy- I love your cheery disposition and positive attitude. You love the students and are a great friend to all. Thank you for the joy you bring to others.
