Dear Baron Parents and Community,
Happy Holidays! Thank you for continuing to visit our weekly newsletter. This is our last week of school to end semester one. Students will be taking final exams Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please encourage your children to put forth their very best efforts on final exams. Final Fall semester grades will be distributed on Friday, December 20 to your children. You can also check final grades on Jupiter at the end of the day Friday.
Winter Break is from December 23 - January 14. School resumes on Wednesday, January 15 for students. I would like to wish you and your families an a wonderful and joyful holiday season and a safe and happy New Year!

School Information
From Counseling Center
Attention all Seniors: Counselors will be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting the week of October 21st during lunch and after school (2:30-3:30 p.m.) to assist you with college applications. Laptops will be available for use.
Lunch time: Mrs. Tovar, Mrs. Calderon-Magbuhat, and Ms. Torres
After school: Ms. Castro, Mrs. Mata, and Mrs. Serrano
Reminder: Do not wait until the last week before the application deadline; counselors will not be available to help you. Thanksgiving break will take place the last week of November and the UC/CSU application deadline is November 30th.

Steps to Success in STEM
Sweetwater Union High School District has partnered with the National Math Science Initiative (NMSI) to increase student success in STEM (Math, Science, Computer Science, and English) Advanced Placement courses. The partnership will provide support to AP students, teachers, and the school. Check out the newsletter here for more information.
LGBTQ Youth: You're not alone!
On Jimmie Fallon this week, he had Lucas Hedges as a guest, who is starring in a new movie to be released next Friday called “Boy Erased.” It covers the story of a young teenager who was sent to gay conversion therapy. Lucas Hedges is working with the website Stopearasing.com. This is a 24-hour website that has resources available to youth who need to talk or is seeking help.
The website details many contacts: The Trevor Project, The Trevor Lifeline, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, Trans Lifeline, and the National Runaway Safeline.

THE HOMEWORK CENTER WILL BE OPEN ONLY ONE HOUR ON MONDAY, 12/16 (2:26 - 3:25), CLOSED REST OF THE WEEK.
All students have access to the Homework Center where they are welcome to study and complete homework. Students have access to online resources, book resources, computers, and printers.

Saturday School
Saturday School begins promptly at 8:00 am and ends at 12:00 pm. Students who arrive late will not be allowed to attend. Students who are disruptive will be asked to leave and may subject themselves to disciplinary action. Please bring class work and leave all electronic devices that do not pertain to learning at home.

Youth Action Council
Barons! Mayor Mary Casillas Salas is looking to recruit students for Youth Action Council (YAC). The YAC is composed of Chula Vista high school students in grades 10, 11, or 12. The YAC establishes a communication link between Chula Vista youth and the City Council. Members are primarily engaged in a variety of community service projects that initiate outreach to their neighbors and peers. The YAC also provides opportunities for students to connect with their community and become informed stakeholders. Additionally, students can earn community services hours for those who are looking to fulfill this graduation requirement.

School Site Council
The role of the School Site Council (SSC) is to annually evaluate, monitor, and implement the school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) which sets our school plan and goals based on student data and the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). SSC reviews and approves school expenditures related to Title I funds. The SSC is comprised of the principal, teachers, non-classroom staff, parents, and students. The SSC meets six times throughout the school year. SSC meetings are public meetings and open attendance is welcome.
English Learner Advisory Committee Meetings

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a committee for parents or other community members who want to advocate for English Learners. The overall aim of ELAC is to advise the school staff and School Site Council on programs and services for English Learners and contribute to the development of the SPSA. ELAC meetings are public meetings. Parents are welcome to attend all meetings throughout the year. If you would like to join or attend our ELAC meetings, please contact the school main office at (619) 397-2000.
