Planning for Friday, February 12
Mathews Families,
In our continuing effort to always strive to protect the health and safety of our students, we have decided to adjust how Friendship Parties/Day will look this year.
Friendship Day will be on February 12th for both School at Home and Face to Face students.
Face to Face students MAY bring valentines for their classmates, as long as they arrive between Monday the 8th through Wednesday the 10th. All valentines must be held in quarantine on campus for 48 hours prior to being handed out, so it is important they come to school by Wednesday the 10th.
On Friday the 12th, Face to Face students will be creating the boxes/bags they will use to take home their valentines. (Please do not bring bags for students to take anything home that day). Students will have time to pass out valentines as well as have time for a party on Friday. In order to stay in line with our health and safety protocols, we will not be eating during our parties, nor can we have parent volunteers this year.
School at Home students will be celebrating virtually. Your classroom teacher will share more details about what this event will look like on a class by class basis. So please be on the lookout for more information coming soon from your child’s teacher.
We will do our very best to ensure a safe and fun event for all of our students.
Thank you all so much for your unwavering support and understanding,
Mathews Elementary
5th Grade Colonial Days for School to Home Learners
Monday, Feb. 22 5th grade School to Home Pick-Up Day
Hello All,
We would like to plan a 'pick up' for our 5th grade remote students for Monday, 2/22. They will be picking up supplies for colonial day activities scheduled for 2/26/2021.
Each of the bags will be individually wrapped and will have been 'quarantined'
for a few days before they are scheduled for pick up.
Everything is clearly marked and will be set out on tables.
The tables will be under the covered porch at the front of the school off of Marchman Way entrance.
Pick-Up time is from 7:45 a.m. until 2:40 p.m.
SCIENCE FAIR 2021!
Where there is a will...there is a way!
Parents will notify Mrs. Dansbee if their child is interested in participating in the Science Fair.
In turn, Mrs. Dansbee will create a Google Classroom for students to join to share information and rules as well as answer questions.

COVID PROTOCOL UPDATES
As always we will continue to practice social distancing in class, halls, and on our bus. We will continue to practice handwashing and wearing our masks. Desk partitions are in place between desks as well. Thorough cleaning and disinfecting also contributes to our Face to Face school environment to be a safe place to be. To date we have not had a student transmit the Covid-19 virus at school to another student.
In regards to quarantining during the second semester we will be looking at the following protocols in determining which students need to be quarantined; rather than the entire class:
Changes Regarding Quarantine
The close contact definition will change to allow those who are ‘properly masking’ to avoid being sent out on quarantine… proper masking is defined as wearing a multi-layer face covering (layers that can be pulled apart – so not gaiters that are one layer, one-layer masks, etc.) that fits around the nose / chin. For more information on the safest masks for your child to wear:
CDC guidance: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html
The quarantine period for close contacts will be revised – meaning that a student/staff member who is identified as a close contact will only have to stay out for 10 days instead of 14. The gold standard is still 14 days, but in an effort to get kids back in class and staff back to work, CDC is allowing the 10-day return. At the 10 day mark the person must be symptom free before they can return and continue to monitor for symptoms through day 14; if they develop symptoms, they will remain on quarantine.
This message includes updates on the COVID-19 response from CDC. The COVID-19 Outbreak is a rapidly evolving situation and information will be updated as it becomes available.
