Rising 6th Grade Students

Parents and 5th grade students,

We are excited to begin planning for your students' middle school courses. Students, along with their parents, will be selecting their courses for 6th grade. Elementary counselors will meet with all 5th graders to review and approve their selections and complete their three year plan. Parents will then receive a copy of the student’s three year plan. Plans will be reviewed with the students’ counselor each year.

The following resources will assist with completing the 3 year plan:

*Please Visit Middle School websites for LEISD Course Guides

All Middle School students will have 7 classes per day.

  • Four (4) core: English, Math, Science, Social Studies

  • Three (3) Electives

Middle school students must complete two years of PE credit (PE, Pre-Athletics, PE Pals (Walker MS), Athletics), one year of Fine Arts (Band, Choir, Art, Theater) and one semester of College/Career Readiness in 7th grade.

Please consider all courses carefully. Parents and students can choose courses for 6th grade on the google form from now to February 6th. Changes must be submitted no later than March 24, 2023.

After this time, parents and students should consider course selections to be a firm commitment. Staffing & course offerings are planned based on course requests.

After this date schedule changes will only be allowed for these specific reasons:

  • Student is enrolled in a class for which he/she has already received credit.

  • Student is enrolled in the incorrect level of an assigned course.

  • Student is enrolled in a class for which he/she has not met the prerequisite.

  • Student is not enrolled in a class for which there was a tryout. For example band, choir, athletics.

  • Student Is missing a core class. (English, Math, Social Studies, and Science).

  • Student has an incomplete schedule.

While every effort will be made to schedule students into the elective courses of their choosing, students are not guaranteed enrollment in elective courses. Enrollment numbers and master scheduling conflicts can result in a student having to be registered for an alternative elective. Students will be placed into required electives first.

● NOTE- Students may be placed in an intervention class in lieu of their elective, depending on their previous year’s performance and as determined by campus administration.

Course selections for all 6th graders should be completed no later than March 24, 2023.

Thank you,

LEISD Counseling Team

Valentine's Parties are coming up on February 14th, please RSVP below if you'd like to attend!

Students may write letters about their teachers, librarians, instructional specialists, or other professional teaching staff telling why these teaches mean so much to them. and how they have made a positive impact for the students.

Entries may be typed or handwritten, and may be turned into your campus front office or emailed to admin@leisdef. Letters must contain the student's name, campus, grade level, and nominee's name. Younger students may receive assistance with their letters, but we ask that the student's own wording be used as much as possible. For more information please email admin@leisdef.
