CLINIC NEWS FROM NURSE LIZ:
It’s hard to believe that another school year is rapidly coming to an end!
END OF THE YEAR MEDICATION PICK-UP
Medication orders will expire at the end of this school year. If your child has prescription or non-prescription medications in the clinic, they MUST be picked up by a parent or designated adult prior to dismissal on May 24. The only exceptions to this are inhaled asthma rescue medications and Epipens. If you would like, your child can come to the clinic and pick up these medications and take them home with them. We are not allowed to keep any medication in the clinic over the summer. Any medications that are NOT picked up by dismissal on May 24 will be disposed of in compliance with state regulations.
In August, I will need new FSSD Student Medication Administration Forms brought in, with any prescription, non-prescription and complimentary alternative medication that you would like me to keep and administer to your child during the 2017-2018 school year. The forms are available in the clinic or can be downloaded from the FSSD website at www.fssd.org. Prescription medications and complimentary alternative medications require both a doctor’s and parent/guardian signature. Complimentary alternative medications include essential oils and supplements. The medication must be brought in a pharmacy labeled prescription bottle. Non-prescription medication (over the counter) medications require a parent/guardian signature. This includes cough drops, Neosporin ointment, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc. The medication must be in a new, unopened container with the name of the medication and expiration date clearly visible. I CANNOT ACCEPT ANY MEDICATIONS BROUGHT IN A ZIPLOCK BAGGY! Inhalers and Epipens may be carried by students, but we must still have a medication authorization for this. ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE CLINIC BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN. NEVER SEND MEDICATIONS TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD.
Have a safe and healthy summer!
Nurse Liz

CAFETERIA NEWS:
Twice a year, the PGMS Cafeteria has a food tasting event after school where students have the opportunity to try different foods that are new to FSSD and have been tweaked by PGMS. Students were interested in trying new foods and eager to give input. They tried 12 new foods and 2 smoothie drinks. One of the foods the students tested was Chicken Wraps. We already offer those daily, but students wanted to try them without tomato and lettuce. Students gave great feedback.
Our menu is prepared by our Child Nutrition Supervisor at Central Office, Robbin Cross, but managers, staff, and our customers do have input. Our customer feedback is the most valuable tool we have. A big thank you to the all the students who participated!
