Home School & Independent Study Options
Every family is in a unique position due to the pandemic and its effects. San Juan Unified remains committed to providing multiple learning options to meet individual needs. For the 2021-22 school year, students will be enrolled in our in-person learning model by default. If the in-person model meets your student’s needs, you do not need to do anything.
If you would like to explore options other than in-person learning, San Juan Unified is offering the following:
- Independent study
- TK-8 homeschool
Families have the choice to enroll their student(s) in independent study or homeschool for the entire 2021-22 school year. If independent study or homeschool options are selected, a space will not be guaranteed at the student’s current school of enrollment should they later choose to return. Students may transfer back into their school of enrollment or program of choice if space is available. If space is not available at the school of enrollment, a space will be offered at a nearby school.

COVID Safety Protocols
- All students and staff must wear masks inside regardless of vaccination status.
- Wearing masks outside is optional for both staff and students.
- Students will remain in their class cohort unless it is necessary to combine with other cohorts (ELD groups, Resource support, Special Education services, reading groups, etc.)
- Students will be spaced out in the cafeteria and eat outside as much as possible.
- Students will be highly encouraged to wash their hands every time they enter the classroom. Hand sanitizer dispensers are mounted to the wall inside every classroom doorway.
- Any adults visiting the school office are required to wear face coverings regardless of vaccination status.
- Masks are available and ready for use for both adults and students through campus as needed.
