New Workcamp in Micronesia!

SCI Hong Kong and SCI Japan together are organising a workcamp which will take place in Micronesia in March. Do you know where Micronesia is? It is a remote island in the South Pacific! Joining a workcamp there is a unique opportunity to get to know the local culture! Volunteers will help with coffee farming near Pohnpei, the capital of Micronesia. Regional Workcamp in Japan

This is a special regional project for participants from Japan, Korea and China including Hong Kong and Macao. The aim is to strengthen the mutual understanding and cooperation between these neighbouring countries. Participants will help to build bookshelves in a library used by a local village community. Youth Leadership Training in Secondary Schools

As a part of the Global Education Project, we held the first Youth Leadership Training at two Secondary Schools in Hong Kong. About 40 students participated to learn about different leadership styles and leadership qualities. Thanks especially to our dedicated volunteers Dadi, Linda, Molly and Aurelia for facilitating this training!

Our Chairperson is becoming famous!

Sam Jayasinghe, Chairperson and Coordinator, was recently interviewed for Baptist University student newspaper. Interviewer Jade, who studies Chinese journalism, was enthusiastic about our work. The article will appear soon, so stay tuned!

Annual General Dinner

On December 6th we welcomed many of our volunteers and supporters to join us for dinner. It was a really nice evening and an excellent opportunity for all of us to get together and socialise! We really enjoyed your company & Thanks for coming!

Language and Culture Classes have started!

SCI's Language&Culture Classes have begun in October this year. Currently we are offering Classes in German, French, Mandarin and Cantonese. Our Classes are a fun and interactive way of getting to know different cultures! No prior knowledge is required - we explore other languages and cultures together. Our Classes are taught by native-speaking volunteers and cost 100 HKD per session.

Due to several activities abroad this winter, Classes will recommence in January. If you are interested in joining, please let us know or feel free to stop by!

Our first Volunteer in Africa

We are proud to announce that we placed a volunteer in an African project for the first time. Volunteer Jane from Hong Kong participated in wildlife preservation work at Khama Rhino Sanctuary in Botswana this past summer. Congratulations, Jane!

Peace Movie Night

SCI started hosting Peace Movie Nights to give members and supporters a chance to discuss peace in a laid-back setting. So far we have hosted two Peace Movie Nights. We watched "All Quiet on the Western Front" and "Railway Man", two movies who deal with soldier's experiences in the First and Second World War.

Several Service Tours this Winter Season

SCI is coordinating Service Tours to Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Nepal this winter holiday season. We are looking forward to working with university students from universities all around Hong Kong. it will be a chance to learn about local culture, volunteer and celebrate the holidays all at the same time.

Cooperation with SCI Nepal

SCI Hong Kong has supported a project started by SCI Nepal. We are planning to provide school uniforms to the students at Panauthi Secondary School in Nepal. The outfits will be produced and distributed soon!
