A Note from Mr. Vuolo
This time of year, with athletes in competition and our student activities kicking off their years, is awesome. In FHS we are reminded every Wednesday of students who have shown Saber Pride. We share that pride through this weekly bulletin.
During the Cross Country meet we hosted at Grant Park a little over two weeks ago, our staff and students were presented with a moment. By moment, I mean an opportunity to truly act in a way that exemplifies what it means to be a Franklin Saber and a member of our greater community. During our meet, there was a celebration of life and remembrance in the park, along the course/route, for a veteran of our armed forces. This was information our coaches and team were not given before the event. Thinking quickly, our coaches and athletes acted to make sure that the typical roars, cheers, and encouragement that accompanies a cross country meet, were muted and quieted to a respectful tone to allow the family and friends of the veteran to continue with their remembrance.
Thank you to Coach Wasemiller, Coach Challen, and the student athletes and volunteers who made that happen.
Last week I reminded our school community that every day we are presented with small choices to make the world a better place. Indeed, this is what happened during that cross country meet. How we choose to meet the moments we are given, makes the difference.
As we start our Homecoming week, I challenge you to recognize the moments and choose to make the world a better place, one choice and decision at a time.
Go Sabers,
Mike Vuolo
Hey, Hey, Hey... check out the students who have been showing Saber Pride this week!

Parent Teacher Conferences
The High School will again be conducting Parent Teacher Conferences digitally/virtually by appointment. If you are unable to meet or need to meet with a teacher in person, please reach out to that teacher to set up a meeting.
Our conferences are meant to offer time for brief conversations regarding your student's progress. If you require a more lengthy discussion regarding your student or are unable to meet within the time and space available, please email or call the teacher and arrange a mutual time to meet. Every day is an opportunity to connect. Never hesitate to reach out. Here is the link to sign up.

Bus Reminders
Bus Driver Shortage: Please review this document that we shared on August 31 with all families to make you aware of how a bus driver shortage could impact our bus routes and how we will communicate this with you in the event we can not secure a driver for your child’s route.
Bus Riders Wear Masks: Any individual on a school bus (or any public transportation) is federally required to wear a mask. Please make sure your student has a mask before heading to the bus. Even if students are choosing not to wear a mask while at school, a mask must be worn on the bus at all times. Thank you.
Need a Bus Change or Addition? If you have any additions or changes needed for the busing of your child, please use this Bus Change or Addition Form.
Bus Drivers Needed: We are continuing to support First Student in their recruiting efforts. First Student provides $20/hour starting pay, a $1500 sign-on bonus, paid CDL training, 20-hours a week guaranteed with extra hours available, a child ride-along program, and no experience necessary. If you are interested in a career with First Student or know someone who may be, please pass along this opportunity. All hiring information for bus drivers is here.
Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Opportunity for Parents & Community Members
As part of a School-Based Mental Health Grant we received as a district, we are excited to offer a Fall and Winter opportunity to train parents and community members in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA). During the YMHFA course, participants develop an understanding of the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, the importance of early intervention, and how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Participants will engage in a 2-hour self-paced online course followed by a 4.5 hour in-person session with a district trainer on Friday, November 19th from 12-4:30pm. If you do not have access to needed technology for the online self-paced portion, arrangements can be made to provide you with a device and/or internet access. The deadline to register is Tuesday, October 19th. Please complete this survey to indicate your interest in participating. A confirmation email will be sent to finalize your enrollment in the course and next steps.
