Welcome to the Shimek Library!
Class Library Schedule
Students are welcome to check out and return books any day of the week, but each class has a scheduled library class and checkout time once a week. Please help your child remember to return their books so they can select new books!
Tuesday Classes:
3rd - Schneider, 5th - Skay, 6th - Cordova and Mueller
Wednesday Classes:
K - Kalsem, 1st - Buxton and Muhlenbruch
Thursday Classes:
2nd - Montrose, 4th - Chapman
Visiting Author
The 3rd and 4th graders will be reading and discussing many of the books the Ms. Sweet has illustrated. Students will get to see a presentation by Melissa Sweet in mid-October.
Library Learning
Kindergarten Students started the year learning about behavior in the library and how to take care of library books. We also read some fun books about book care.
In the computer lab, the students have learned how to care for the Chromebooks, how to log in with a Clever badge, and how to access selected educational games.
Mrs. Kalsem's Kindergartners can currently check out 2 books per week - 1 Everybody & 1 Easy Reader. They come to the library and the lab on Wednesdays.
First Grade Students began the year reviewing library expectations and how to care for library books. We started discussing this year's Goldfinch Award books and will read a few of these great books. Click on the link to see book trailers.
First graders check out 5 books - 3 stay at school to read in the classroom and 2 go home to read with the family. If you would like your student to check out more books to bring home, let me know. First grade comes to the library on Wednesdays.
Second Grade Students started the year by reviewing the organization of the library and how to care for library books.They are now practicing how to choose a just right book.

Third Grade Students started the year by reviewing library expectations and the organization of the library. We then discussed taking care of technology at Shimek. Students practiced logging into the Chromebooks with their new passwords. We are now studying Melissa Sweet, our visiting author.
Third graders check out 5 books each week. They can always return books and check out more. They come to the library on Tuesdays.
Fourth Grade Students reviewed the organization of the library. Students reviewed Shimek technology-use guidelines. We started studying Melissa Sweet, our visiting author.

Fifth Grade: Fifth graders reviewed library and lab expectations and use of technology at Shimek. Each student signed a Technology Use Contract, pledging to use technology safely and wisely. Students are starting an All About Me project on Google slides. It would be great if the students inserted a few family pictures from home.
5th graders may check out as many books as they would like. They visit the library on Tuesdays.
Sixth Grade: Sixth graders reviewed library expectations. Each student reviewed and signed a Technology Use Contract, pledging to use technology safely and wisely. Students are now reviewing digital citizenship by participating in choose-your-own-adventure scenarios through Digital Passport.
6th graders may check out as many books as they would like. They visit the library on Tuesdays.
