HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 4 Week 8 - 4 December 2020
FROM GEORDIE
Good afternoon everyone,
Another busy and rewarding week is coming to a close and I would like to start by thanking everyone who helped out at our swimming carnival today. Yet again a very well organised event by Rob Flexman and supported by a team of staff and parents who have helped to make the day run so smoothly. There have been some nerves, a heap of laughs, peer encouragement and some excellent efforts in the pool. Whenever you see our community come together like this you realise how lucky we are to live here in WA and to be surrounded by such fantastic families.
Next week is again very busy. On Monday night we will farewell our Year 6 students with their Graduation Mass and after party in the hall. This has been a huge effort to organise by a very dedicated team of Year 6 parents and I know the students will really appreciate these efforts. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at the EOY Concert on Tuesday evening. As I have said the past few weeks it is going to be a very relaxed and laid back affair. We are also planning on roping off a ‘Paparazzi Zone’ behind the students so parents can get a quick pic during the performance. If you utilize this please just be mindful people are watching from behind and sit down in this area. Kindy parents, if you could drop your kids at the Kindy class for 5.30pm that would be great! Kindy students will also be collected straight after their performance.
To ensure we are adhering to social distancing restrictions we are inviting immediate family to the event please. The times are listed below:
4.30pm onwards: Parents and children arrive and set-up their picnic on the Senior Oval.
5.30pm: Performance from the Holy Roly Stones Band and the School Choir. Kindy children to assemble in the Kindy Rooms
6pm: Kindy through to Year 6 will perform (In that order).
7pm: Congratulations to leaving class and concert close. Carols to play and sing along with...
7.30pm: Pack away.
On Wednesday all our students will be off on their Big Day Out excursions to celebrate the end of the year. All parents should have received information about these excursions via SeeSaw and/or a note going home. Finally on Thursday our students (only) will be going down to the church for the final Mass for the year. I hope this is a chance for all students and teachers to relax and take a reflective look back on the challenges and successes this year. A busy week indeed, however, a really nice way to finish the year.
I hope you have some time to relax this weekend!

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers
Christmas for many of us is a time of happiness and celebration as we gather with our family and friends sharing meals, laughing and chatting as we open presents, however, for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage Christmas can be a challenging time. The Vinnies Christmas Appeal encourages the community to rethink their priorities at Christmas time by helping to give joy and hope to those who need it most.
We are seeking your support through the donation of non-perishable food items. This will enable us to provide families and individuals who turn to St Vincent de Paul over this period with Christmas hampers so they too can share in the joy of Christmas.
Suggested items:
- Christmas cakes/puddings/cookies/mince pies
- Chocolates/candies/nuts/ snacks/ nibbles
- Christmas stockings for children
- Soft drinks/juices
- Long life milk/cream
- Long life custards (pouring, not powder)
- Tinned ham/fish/fruit/vegetables
- Jams/honey/pickles
- Bon Bons/crackers
- Baby products
No fresh fruits/vegetables. No meats
All items will be collected in each classroom and donated to St Vincent de Paul on Thursday
10th December.

PASTORAL CARE AND STUDENT WELLBEING NEWS
PASTORAL AND STUDENT WELL-BEING NEWS
This week, all past Seasons for Growth groups had a reconnector. This prepares them for the holidays and reminds them of the skills and strategies they have. As I farewell our first SFG group to high school, I know they will be able to handle anything!! Well done and good luck to you all.
Last week our year 2’s completed Feelings and Friends. Both classes have completed the program this year, albeit with a few stops and starts thanks to 2020. All students now have their workbooks and a laminated certificate and copy of their First Aid Kit for Feelings. I am looking forward to working with our year 2 classes again next year. You can find more information about this program here:
Thank you for your support.

LIBRARY NEWS
It’s been party, party, party in the library this week. On Wednesday the Chess Umpires enjoyed a well deserved thank you morning tea – I can’t run the Chess Tournament without them and I will miss some fantastic umps as they head off to high school. On Thursday our wonderful 2020 Library Monitors celebrated the end of a great year of leadership. Thanks so much to Sophie, Katia, Hannah, Steph, Sophie, Saba, Nicholas, Henry, Ryan and Bailey for all your help this year and being so adaptable when 2020 challenged us with lots of changes. You will all be missed and will be wonderful next year! Keep reading and playing chess!
Best wishes

Healthy Habits Podcast
It's safe to say that 2020 has been a very different year than any of us had expected. There has been plenty of change and upheaval to families and with this in mind the P&F has enlisted the help of some valued professionals to provide our School Community with some much needed guidance on some of those challenges we are facing. This small series "Healthy Habits" has been designed with Covid in mind and to provide Parents with some resources in dealing with the new challenges we face. This is the beginning of the series with more episodes planned for the new year. Thank you to Carli Woolfrey and Emily Thorne for giving of their time and expertise in our very first Podcast series.
