A Special Applause to...
Every chance I get, I talk about the great work you do everyday! I want to send this message as a way for you to get an idea of the great work going on in other classrooms.
It is so powerful for students to know where they are in the learning process. I want to recognize classrooms where I saw this, but understand that this may not be an inclusive list. As you know, it is difficult to get the whole picture of what is going on when I am only in your room for a few minutes. At the same time, I want you to be able to go see this work in specific classrooms. So... here we go! Thank you to Jessica Davis, Jessica Neef, Jimmy, Chris Rains, Nick, Louie, Jon, and Amye. As I walk into your rooms, I can immediately see who is ready for the next step in learning and who needs a little more help. WOW!
PD on the Fly...
This week's article looks at the work we are doing around Cultural Responsive Practices. The authors (SABIA PRESCOTT, JENNY MUÑIZ & KRISTINA ISHMAEL) share, "We know that meeting these needs is critical to success—students learn better when they see themselves reflected in the curriculum, when they feel safe in school, and when they feel respected by their teachers and peers."
I continue to reflect on that quote as well as the information I have heard from a variety of sources, including the opening PD keynote speaker. There is two things I have learned during my time in Sycamore: we all have implicit bias and the Greene School teachers do an amazing job of creating a safe, engaging climate for learning. Read this article and reflect on how we can continue to make this experience the best for all students.

Staff Wellness - from our Nurse
Let’s go on a Journey
We would like to invite you to join our first staff wellness activity for 2018-2019. We are going to walk around the United States.
It is very simple and only requires you to do 3 things.
Keep track of your miles each day and total them for the week.
You can use pedometers, fitness trackers like your fitbits, or even just some apps on your smartphone.
Please see links listed below for apps you can use.
great fitness and walking apps
2. Log your miles weekly in the shared document on Fridays.
3. Be honest...we are on the honor system.
Based on our monthly totals, we will be providing a healthy treat relative to the destination we have reached. Once we see the interest we will pick our final destination/goal. Where would you like to go?
.
For Example:
639 miles to New York City
We will celebrate with bushels of local apples.
923 miles to the Florida state line
We will celebrate with some yummy citrus fruit
