Talk About A Heat Wave!
Hello Phoenix families,
I hope you all had a nice three day weekend and were able to find a way to keep cool! I spent part of the weekend in San Diego and part here in Moorpark....ALL of it inside finding ways to keep cool.
I want to take a minute to tell you about a wonderful accolade Moorpark College has received. The college was named one of 10 finalist for the Aspen prize given for community college excellence. Barack Obama called the Aspen "basically the Oscars for great community colleges," so being one of the top ten in the nation truly is an honor for Moorpark College. The Aspen committee will be visiting September 20th and 21st to interview various stakeholders throughout the Moorpark College community in order to determine a final winner. That winner will be announced in the Spring of 2023. Congratulations to Moorpark College, we are honored to be part of your wonderful program.
Here at HSMC we had a successful club rush last Friday. There are many varied clubs on campus for our students to join. While our student body may be small, we certainly have many active members. Thank you to all students who participated and to the teachers who are sponsoring a club (or 2, or 3 or more).
This week finds our seniors hosting a visit from CSUCI and St. Johns College, both will speak about the admissions process and requirements. College application season is upon us, please come into the office with any questions you have or for other support.
Have a wonderful week, Phoenix families!
CONGRATULATIONS SOFIA!!
Our very own Sofia has been selected as a College Board National Recognition Program awardee. She has earned the National Hispanic Recognition Award. The prestigious recognition was earned by fewer than 34% of the over 180,000 eligible students.
Sofia is able to include this honor on college and scholarship applications and it will help her stand out during the admissions and scholarship selection process.
Please join us in congratulating Sofia, we already know how special she is, we are happy The College Board recognizes it also.
