Alluvial Plains

An alluvial plain is an area that is built up by rich, fertile soil left by river floods. The Sakarya Alluvial Plain is in Northern Turkey. It is off of the Sakarya River, which runs into the Black Sea.

Silt is made up of many small particles of rich soil. It is washed out of flooded rivers and provides fertile farmland in Turkey for farmers to grow and export crops such as hazelnuts, figs, and apricots. Turkey is the 4th largest producer of fresh vegetables in the world.
