October 2022

Happy Fall!

Our students have been working hard each day, engaging in new learning. Teachers have begun guided reading groups and students in 1st-5th grade have completed the STAR assessment and are now able to take Accelerated Reader quizzes (see below for more information on Accelerated Reader). We are excited for you to get into classrooms on Back-to-School Night to meet teachers and hear more about all the learning taking place in classrooms.

We have many fun, family friendly events coming up! Thank you for all of your support and participation. We have a lot to look forward to!

Running Club

We are so excited to have our Running Club starting on Tuesday 10/11. Running club is every Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 8:40 each day. Students in all grades are welcome! If you are interested in becoming a running club volunteer, please email Sabrina Young @ syoung@sandi.net.

Students in run/walk club will have their laps tracked using a program called lap tracker. We will celebrate students athletic accomplishments during our school-wide Monday morning assemblies.

Staffing updates

We are fortunate to have been allocated an additional teacher to account for our class size overage in our primary grades. With this additional teacher, we will be able to open a new Kindergarten classroom beginning on October 19th. If you are the parent of a Kinder student, you should have received communication from our school on Monday with more specific details.

Another staffing change will be with our school counselor, Ms.Frost. She has accepted a promotion in another school district and will be leaving Clay at the end of the week. Ms.Frost has had a huge impact on our school's students, staff and families. She will be incredibly missed. We wish her all the best, but will miss seeing her everyday! We have already begun interviews for a new counselor and hope to find the right candidate soon.

Family Friday

We had an amazing turnout at our first Family Friday! We look forward to sharing many more Family Friday's together throughout the school year. Our first 15 minutes of Family Friday is an opportunity for you to learn about our Clay teachers. Please take a moment to complete this brief survey so we can plan our teaching around topics that are of interest to you. https://forms.gle/63D1Q6H7ppCvbKBm6

Accelerated Reader

We are in our 2nd full year of using Accelerated Reader. We love this program because it is extremely motivating for our students. After a child reads a book, is read to, or reads with someone, they are able to take an "AR" quiz. The quiz tests their comprehension of the book they read. Students earn points based on how well they do on the quiz. As students begin to earn points they will receive prizes from their teachers and our school. Progress is tracked in classrooms and school-wide. Each student has an individual reading goal, classroom goal and we have a school-wide goal. Our goal as a school this year is to earn 1,100 AR points! Last year we met our goal of 700 points and had a BMX assembly to celebrate our accomplishments. We WILL meet out goal again this year!

Dogs on campus

We have noticed more dogs on campus especially before school. Although we love your furry friends, district policy prohibits dogs on school grounds, during and before and after school hours, unless required for a student/adult per the Americans with disables act. Thank you for your cooperation in following district policy.
