Back to School

The first full week of school was a success! We have had lots of laughter and fun getting back into the swing of school. Classrooms have been busy setting up expectations.

Teachers have been building a classroom community and developing a culture of kindness with various team building exercises.

As always, we are here to support our students and families. Remember, we all row at LVIS!

Safety Drills and Procedures

Our number one priority will always be student safety! I want to make you aware of some of our current safety practices and what we are doing this year to ensure a safe learning environment.

  • Classroom and exterior doors will be locked during the school day
  • Extensive staff safety training
  • All adults that enter the building are screened through our Raptor system.
  • Multiple safety drills throughout the year
  • Weekly exterior door safety audits

On Friday, we had our first evacuation drill of the year. We evacuated 250 students and teachers in under two minutes. The Lago Vista Fire Department was on hand to observe us in action. They were impressed with our students.

We will be conducting other safety drills in the upcoming weeks. Teachers have discussed with students how we respond and where we go for various drills.

Dismissal Tips and Tricks

Thank you parents for your help with car rider line. Our teachers have been working hard to move the line along in a timely efficient manner.

Below are some tips to remember in car rider line

  • Have your orange car rider tag visible in the car rider line until your child gets in the car.

  • Please do not talk on your cell phone in line. This is considered a school zone and is against the law if not hands free.

  • In the morning, have students ready to exit the vehicle as soon as you pull up to the driveway.

Transportation Changes

If you need to make a change to how your child gets home, call or email the office by 12:00pm. You can email Gabby Mercado at

Room Parents Wanted!

As we return back to normal, we will be welcoming room parents back this year. A room mom or dad’s main task is to facilitate communication between other parents and the teacher. They help with organizing class parties, celebrations, field trips, etc. They will meet with the teacher and schedule some dates on the calendar. If you are interested in being a room parent, please be on the lookout for more information coming from your child’s teacher.

Also, don’t forget to complete the volunteer application. The form is available here.

A College Going Culture!

On Wednesday, our staff wears college shirts. Students are welcome and encouraged to participate!

Popcorn Party!

We had a contest to see what class could memorize their lunch numbers first. There was a three way tie in 5th grade! Congratulations to Mrs. Norman, Mrs. Hardy, Ms. Becker, and Mrs. Whitton's homeroom class. They ended their Friday with a popcorn party!
