A monthly update from Foothills Student Ministry
Another Spring has sprung here in Oregon and MAN has it sprung! Temperatures in the 80s and sun shining for multiple days, feels more like a typical June than April! I love this time of year because it always reminds me of HOPE and NEW BEGINNINGS. There are some transitions happening in the life of our church as well. One of which you probably have seen if you attended church this past week…our Living Room building project is in full swing! This week they are installing much needed new flooring in the auditorium.
Another transition is our Middle School Ministry is returning to large group programming in just a couple of weeks on May 5th. We will also adjust our times to begin at 630p and end at 815pm. We are really excited to combine our two small groups and build some momentum with new students attending as well. Note our last Sunday small group will be 4/25. We will continue meeting weekly until June 16th and begin following the Molalla River School District calendar.
Finally, our staff is having a few transitions as well with Sam and Tina moving out of Student Ministry. Sam is moving into his new role at the church as Community Service Pastor. He will oversee the Living Room, Greeting Team, Celebrate Recovery and the Resource Center. Over the past few months I have been taking on more and more responsibilities with the High School Ministry, in addition to leading the Middle School groups. It is an exciting and busy time for both of us as we transition into our new roles. Tina will also be moving on next month after being a big part of our Student Ministry the past five years. We are grateful for the passion and hard work she brought to the ministry.
Stay tuned for more information on an upcoming lunch to celebrate Sam’s 15 years of Youth Ministry here at Foothills!
The Best is Yet to Come!
Some of you may have wondered: when can my child begin attending Student Ministry programs? At Foothills it has been our approach to let students decide through the summer which programs they want to attend for their age group. However come September, we require students to attend the program specific to their grade at school. For example, if Johnny is currently in 5th grade, he can begin attending our Wednesday Night programs once we launch back in the fall. Another example, if Susan is a senior in High School now, she is able to choose between continuing to attend High School or begin attending the College 18-25 group until the end of August. Beginning in September, we ask that Susan begin attending our College 18-25 group on Monday nights. Make sense?
While we understand these transitions into different groups can be challenging for many students, it is important for their development spiritually as well as socially. Let us know if you have any questions.
