Newsletter Week 4, Term 4 2021
St Joseph's Catholic School Morrinsville November 9th 2021
Principal's Message
What a blessed Mission Week we had. A special thank you for your generous contributions, in making our Mission time such a success. The funds raised will go to our three Missions that we support - Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, Holy Childhood Fund and St Columban Society Aotearoa. One of the highlights of the week was a visit to the classes from Pauline McLeod. Pauline spoke about the Sunflower Schools Project in Uganda. Our children were able to see real life connections regarding the differences between our two countries. Thank you so much Pauline!
On 18 October, we are holding our school Athletics Day. Once again it will be an event where parents/caregivers will unfortunately not be able to attend. I know that this is very hard but we have received this advice from the Ministry of Education 'at Alert Level 2, we continue to strongly recommend that large events and activities do not take place, including those that bring parents and caregivers onsite.' Our entire school is taking part in the day, so the the event is just too big to allow others onsite. Once again, we thank you for your continued support with this. We will be uploading photos and videoing the finals of the sprints for you to view.
Have a great week everyone!
God Bless you and your whānau.

Hockey Results
Our 2021 Hockey season is now over. We had a great season with 4 Yr 5/6 teams and 1 Yr 3/4 team entered. I would like to congratulate all our players. You all played amazing and represented our school wonderfully.
A huge thank you to all our coaches, managers, parents and supporters. Without you these sports would not be able to take place. So we thank you for taking the time out of your day to support our children.
On Thursday night we had 3 teams make it to the finals. Our St Joes Hotshots played Tahuna in the B grade final. Coming runner-up 3-1. We then had the A grade final against 2 of our St Joseph's teams. St Joes Slicksticks vs St Joes Strikers, WOW what a game. St Joes Strikers took out the win in the last couple of minutes 2-1.
Friday night put Yr 3/4 team St Joes All Stars played their final and that was an awesome game to watch. Nil all up until the very last seconds unfortunately Tahuna took out the win 1-0.
Our MVPs for this season were - Finn Wilson (St Joes Rockers), Trinity Faaiuaso (St Joes Hotshots), Emma Butler (St Joes Strikers), Andre Hotene-Wilson (St Joes Slicksticks) and Jack Teague and Tristam Corlett (St Joes All Stars).

Class organisation for 2022
We are currently finalising our classes for 2022. When putting classes together the teachers look at aspects such as class size, gender ratio, academic needs, social needs, learning styles verse teaching styles. I ask that you recognise the experience of the senior teachers and classroom teachers in their ability to place children accordingly under the outlined criteria. The final decision as to which child is in what class remains the responsibility of the school. If you have anything that you think we need to know regarding the placement of your children in a class please contact Simone Campbell simonec@stjoes.school.nz or principal@stjoes.school.nz. While we respect all your requests, this will not always be met if we consider other factors to be greater.
If your family is moving or planning to move out of the Morrinsville area or your child will not be returning to St Joseph’s School for 2022, please contact myself principal@stjoes.school.nz or drop by my office asap. We appreciate this as this also can affect class placements and class sizes for next year so as much notice as possible is extremely important.
Mr Flynn is leaving
Our amazing caretaker Mr Peter Flynn is leaving our school after 26 years of looking after St Joes. We are so sad to see him go as he has made sure that our school looks top notch. He is the pool guy, the lawns man, Mr fix-it and he also gets balls off the roof. We know that there will be lots of people that would have some lovely kind words that they would like to share about Peter. Please email those words to admin@stjoes.school.nz so we can pass on your lovely messages.
We are looking to find a new Mr Flynn! The position is 5 hours per week and the job entails general maintenance. We also have a shed and lots of cool tools that come with the job.
If you are interested, please send CV and enquiries to principal@stjoes.school.nz
