Principal's Corner
We have had an amazing start to the school year. It has been such a joy to see your children each day. We have an amazing school community that I am so proud to be a part of.
Thank you for your patience with our renovations. The renovations will last throughout the school year and should be finished by September of 2023. Please always reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
As you may have seen we are also receiving perimeter fencing as another added layer of security. This will have a slight impact on our students that walk to and from school. Once the gates are installed parents will drop off and pick up at the gate instead of walking all the way up to the building.
Our new car rider procedure is going well. Car rider parents, please be sure to stay in the lane assigned so our students all line up at the correct cone. Once your line of cars has been loaded, we will release you one line at a time. Please be sure to access our Kirk Quick Reference Guide. It has valuable information for parents in it.
I am looking forward to a great school year.

Our Mighty Tigers are doing a wonderful job learning our K.I.R.K matrices. Above you see some examples of what it means to be K.I.R.K (Kind, Independent, Responsible, and Keep Safe) at Kirk Elementary. When our students are following our matrices, they receive Kirk Cash. For example, a student can receive Kirk Cash by raising their hand and patiently waiting to answer a question or participate in class discussion. Our students will use their Kirk Cash to purchase items in their teachers’ classroom store and “The Mighty Tiger Kirk Store”.

Primary Practices
Welcome back! We are so excited to have all of our tigers back at school! The learning that is already taking place is incredible. One way to help foster a love of reading for your child is to read with them for 20 minutes a day. You can read to them, they can read to you, or you can take turns reading to each other. Below are some questions you can ask before, during, and after reading.
Before Reading:
What story clues are in the title and in the pictures?
Is this selection (book) fiction or nonfiction?
How do you know?
Why do you want to read this story?
During Reading:
What do you think will happen next?
How do you feel about the main character?
Would you do things differently if you were the main character?
How do you think the story will end?
Is the author trying to teach you something?
After Reading:
How did the story make you feel?
Does this story remind you of any other story?
What were you wondering as you read?
What was your favorite part?
What are you going to read next?
Also, remember to save the date for PK-2 Curriculum Night! It will be on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00pm!

Will you catch me up on the story? What’s happened so far?
What picture is the author painting in your mind?
What will happen next in the story?
How do you feel about the main character?
Why does the character act or feel a certain way?
How will the story most likely end?
How does this story or text remind me of my life?
After Reading:
What was your favorite part of the book? Why?

Nurse’s Corner
Welcome back to school, we are so happy to see our students again!
Please remember to send your student to school with a bottle of water every day. It is still very hot during recess and outdoor time, and our students need to drink water throughout the day. Many common complaints such as headache or stomach ache are due to the need for water.
The clinic is in need of shorts, skirts, and pants in all sizes. If you have any items to donate we would greatly appreciate it. We need sizes 3T to Youth XL or Adult Small.
Counselor Corner
Welcome back, Mighty Tigers! We are so excited for the start of another amazing school year. After being on summer break, here are some great back to school tips:
Prepare your children to transition back to school by having frequent, open conversations about it. Answer their questions, set expectations, and get excited together!
Get enough sleep! Make sure your children AND you are moving back into your school-time sleep schedule.
Remind your child they are not alone in their feelings. Their peers are feeling anxious and excited for the start of another school year, too. Remind them to do their best!
Identify ways that work for your family and you to decrease stress. This could include deep breathing techniques, visualization, meditation, movement activities, etc.
Routine, routine, routine. Work together as a family to decide what your mornings and evenings will look like now that school has begun.
