Sunday, November 4: Turn Clocks Back
This weekend we will set our clocks back an hour, making it darker earlier in the afternoon. With shorter days this time of year, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians need to be extra alert to see each other in low light situations.
Improving visibility means improving safety for all road users. Wearing light colors or reflective clothing is one of the simplest things pedestrians and cyclists can to do keep themselves safe.
Here are additional suggestions to help keep you safe while walking and biking:
· Wear bright, reflective clothing and shoes when walking or biking.
· Don’t wear headphones, text or talk on a cell phone while crossing the street.
· Be aware of vehicles around you. Make eye contact before crossing in front of vehicles.
· Don’t assume that cars see you or are going to stop.
· Driving or biking? Expect and slow down for pedestrians in popular walking areas, around schools and parks, and near crosswalks.
2017-18 School and District Report Cards
School and district report cards for the 2017-18 school year are available at: http://www.ode.state.or.us/data/reportcard/reports.aspx. (Select Beaverton in the District Selection drop-down menu). We welcome the opportunity to share this information with you on the progress we are making to improve academic achievement for each student in the District. We are making progress.
State report cards began fifteen years ago when the 1999 Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring every public school and district to receive a report from the Oregon Department of Education about how they are performing overall. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and affords states greater flexibility. ESSA encourages schools and educators to innovate and create systems that address local needs. As a part of this work, the Oregon Department of Education redesigned the School and District report cards to engage and inform families about their school’s approach to learning, academic and extracurricular offerings, and student performance. Reports cards also serve as an important tool for continuous improvement planning by local and state policymakers, in conjunction with the communities they serve.
At the International School of Beaverton WE are committed to using this information to help tailor our school improvement plans and academic programs to meet the needs of every student. During the year we will communicate with you frequently about student achievement and programs in place at our school to foster student learning and success.
If you have questions about our report card, please contact us. You may also have suggestions for improvements. Please share them! Thank you!
¡Muchas gracias!

Attention Parents of Seniors
Senior portraits are due by December 21st, the last day of school before Winter Break. The picture needs to be a head and shoulders shot, with a picture resolution of 300 dpi, and about a 2.25 x 3.00 inch crop.
If senior photos are sent in after December 21st, there is a chance they will not make it into the yearbook, and the student’s school-taken photo will be featured instead.
Please submit your photos to yearbook advisor Andy Ashkinos at
andrew_ashkinos@beaverton.k12.or.us. Any questions or concerns can also be directed to the same email.
Calling All Athletes!
If you have a son or daughter that plays a sport and would like them to be presented in the yearbook, please send us the pictures of them in action! Of course the higher quality the better but you can send them to us and we can decide.
You can send them to andrew_ashkinos@beaverton.k12.or.us (yearbook advisor).
Make sure to add the student’s name, grade, and school or organization to help us caption the photo. Any other information about the photo is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Restaurant Deliveries to Students
ISB only allows food delivery from family members during the school day. We do not allow pizza and other food deliveries to students during the school day, including services like UberEATS. Often this causes disruption to students' learning if the delivery arrives before or after the designated lunch period and requires supervision by a staff member, pulling them from other responsibilities.
Invitation to Present or Perform for Culture Week 2019
- Do you or someone you know have expertise on a topic that would fit this year’s Culture Week theme, which is People and Planet: Our Impact, Our Ways to Help?
- Do you or someone you know have cultural or international experiences to share?
- Do you or someone you know participate in an interesting cultural/international activity (i.e., dance, sport, etc.) and who would be interested in demonstrating and sharing their skills with our students?
We are looking for students, parents, faculty members, and community members to present two workshops on Thursday, January 31, 2019. Each workshop lasts 40 minutes and we are asking for a 2-hour time commitment from about 7:30 am until 9:20 am.
Culture Week is a unique and special week offered to our students that includes one morning of workshops and sessions provided by parents, fellow students, and community members sharing a variety of international and cultural topics. Workshops are offered separately to middle or high school students, or to all-age groups, and include demonstrations, performances, discussions, and active sessions. Culture Week, which will be held January 29 through February 1, 2019, also includes a keynote speaker, international student assembly, philanthropy, daily international snacks, related curriculum and ends with an international celebration on Friday evening.
If you would like to present a workshop or lead an active session for our students, we would appreciate your expertise and your time. This information will be shared with our students when they register for workshops in January. Email questions or suggestions to CultureWeekISB@gmail.com.
We are looking for about 30 presenters to give students plenty of workshop options.
